Jap's words kept repeating in my mind, his warnings still fresh.

What happened to him? How did the Jap I know take a 360 turn in just a day?

Could it be this was how he was already? I just had to spook him to make him reveal his true self?

"Stop thinking of him. He's not worth your time." Mate says in an angry tone. Keeping his face straight, he tries to maneuver the vehicle and at the same time keep his emotions in check, something that seems difficult for him.

"I know." I sigh.

My mind still returning back to my friend of almost two years. Not only am I surprised by his actions, his Words really surprised me.

I can't believe he've being in love with me for a long time, and yet haven't said anything about it. He've being keeping things in, and smiling with me all the time.

I might not accept his proposal, but that doesn't mean he should have kept it bottled it up inside him.

"Damn it Lat!" Mate angrily hits the steering wheel. "You're still thinking about that bastard." He says it as a statement and not a question. Something that means he's aware am still thinking about him.

"I can't help it. There's no way for me not to think about him. It's just not possible at all. " Telling me not to think of him is like telling me not to think, it's quite impossible.

" You can think of me then. Think of the days we spent together at the orphanage." He says with a small smile , one that looks more forced than any he've sent my way.

"Kal? Why did he call you Kal?" I turn to him in question. In the space of things, I've totally forgotten about the conversation Mate and Jap had. It's as if my mind is just recalling it now.

"Nothing." Mate's jaw ticks. His face gets more angrier than before. "I guess he thought am probably someone else. "

" That's not true. " I frown at him. " You answered to the name. The moment he called you, you reacted to the name. "

I can still vividly recall the words of Jap when he talked of the monster that lurks within the surface. Is that even true?

Is the Mate I know now a monster? Is that why he seems different?

"I don't know why he called me that. I only reacted because I know he's talking about me. That's the only reason." He shrugs.

" But..."

" I'll like for you to keep your questions for now. I don't know who he is. He might have really mistaken me for someone." Mate says in a tone that shows he's not ready to answer any more of the questions am about to ask.

I turn my face towards the window. His actions and words making me more suspicious of him. How can he act that way if he's quite sure there's nothing wrong? His actions are too suspicious for me to ignore them.

The actions makes me more suspicious than I was.

He drove for a long time before we got to a very large black gate. This is by far the largest gate I've ever seen in my entire life.

Something red flashed on the vehicle, and before long, it turns green.

The moment it changed to the colour green, the gate opens on its own.

Mate drives in.

The compound he drives into is so big it seems endless and he drives through the tar road.

Nothing can be seen aside from well manicured lawns. Just looking at it, you'll know how well this place is being taken care of.

Driving through the endless manicured lawn, am quite confident we won't be able to reach his house till tomorrow.

Just as that thought took over, we stop in front of another gate. This one is more smaller than the first.

"How many gates are we going to pass before we reach your home?" I raise a brow at him. Is he living in a sort of prison?

I mean, how can he live in a place that's so far from the gate? Not only that, but he lives in a home with more than one gate.

" This the last one." Mate says in an amused tone.

"Are you living in some sort of prison?"

"No, am not."

" But this is what all these means."

The red line appears and like the first, it checks the entire vehicle before turning green. The gate opens the moment the colour changed.

"You're not only living in a house with two gates, but your home happens to have some sort of freaky security light."

Who have this much security in his home? What's he even hiding?

" It's for our protection. With this much security, no one can enter without alerting me." He drives into the compound.

Oh my gosh!

You really need to help me pick up my jaws from the floor.

The house is unlike any I've ever seen. The large monstrosity is enough to make me die in bliss.

"You're drooling." Mate says in an amused voice. " This is my first time driving that vehicle, don't drool all over it." He jokes.

" Is this your house?" I turn to him in question.

" It is." He smiles

" How possible is that?" I raise a brow at him. Last I checked, it's being only three years and few months since he left. Just how possible is it he've gotten rich in the few days? It's not possible at all.

"You ask lots of questions." He playfully pinched my cheeks. "Your curiosity is like that of a cat."

" Cats are cute. " I blink at him.

" Why are your eyes still black? " He Frowns. "I thought I asked you to remove the black contact?"

" I forgot." I smoothly lie. There's no need telling him I left it on for Jap's sake. I don't want him to think I lied to him all those years.
