Chapter 27: Half Truth

Hailey’s POV

I wake up just before dawn, and by then, the room is alone and silent. But I know Owen was here, I feel it in the air, and I have him present in my memories. I know that at some point in the night he came up to me as I slept and kissed me on the forehead.

His scent is scattered throughout the room, and at the same time, immersed between the warm sheets. It feels like an embrace, like having slept against his chest even though at this moment only the fragrance of memory remains.

But now the dreams seem to belong to a blurred realm, as the day and consequently the previous night are tinged with the shades of reality.

I wake up, slowly aware of all the events that come back to me after the dream and remember the hands that held me, the man's laughter and his rushing across my skin, as his fingers slid over me.
