Chapter 42: In the MIddle of the Void

Hailey’s POV

“Let me out!” I shout while banging on the door. No one pays attention to me. I've been pounding the wood with my fists for more than an hour and I'm hoarse, but if the king's guards have shown me anything, it's that they are very good at turning a deaf ear to what simply doesn't interest them.

No matter how hard I have tried, I have not been able to leave this room. In my absence, the servants reinforced the windows with special locks and when I returned, they took away my phone, so I have no way of communicating with Owen or anyone else to call for help.

Claustrophobia begins to creep through me, but more than anything else it is the anxiety of knowing that I could be locked in here indefinitely, at the hands of a mad, capricious man who refuses to listen to what we have to say.
