RORY POV
"Then what are we supposed to do?
"I don't know. I have tried to avoid that life for twenty-three years, Rory. I miss it. I really do. Pack life, luna life, your father. But I've gotten used to living a non-shifter life. And living without my partner," she said quietly.
"I'm sorry, Mom, about Dad," I said, frowning. I couldn't imagine losing your mate, especially right after you have a child.
"Well, it's not your fault," my mom said, standing up. "I want to show you something."
Mom disappeared down the hall, and I could hear her office door opening. She returned a moment later with some Polarids in her hand.
"Check these out," she said, handing them to me.
She hadn't shown me any photos of my dad in a long time. I met her eyes, and I could see they were filled with pain. I felt terrible.
"I've never been able to move on. I don't know. I loved your father so much, he was my mate."
