Chapter 36

Cori snatched her phone from her purse and glanced at the screen. Unlike yesterday, no new calls or texts from Ben. Good, maybe he'd leave her alone now. With relief, she dropped her purse into her desk drawer and shut it.

The work phones were busy with people calling in with tips about the murders. She didn't know if any were legit, but Investigator Pearson appeared to actively listen to each and every one. The poor woman ran on all cylinders and had been for days now.

Cori walked over to the copy machine opposite the cubicle wall from the officers' conference table. From the other side of the barrier, she could hear Markie brief the officers about where she was at in the investigation. It's not like she intentionally snooped, it wasn't her fault it was an open area, and she could hear every word.

"According to Ben Deprez, he feels there's a potential third victim, Julie Spencer," Markie said.
