Chapter 30

I woke to tense muscles and chattering teeth. When I opened my eyes, I watched in horror as my breath fogged out before me. Ava and I were pretty much curled around each other, but even that was barely helping. Outside, I could hear a dull roar of the wind. What now?

"I'm never moving," I said.

"You have to. You'll starve to death," Ava replied.

"It might be worth it," Dan added from the couch.

"C'mon, let's get up and find out what's happening." Ava threw off the blanket, and I cursed her as cold air slapped against my skin.

Eventually, I got out of bed, but I hated every minute. I donned my regular clothes, two jackets, and my scarf before leaving the room.

Our group headed for breakfast, but we weren't even there yet before we started hearing whispers of another storm.

"It's not as bad as the last one."

"It'll stall our rescue."

"You have to factor in this one on top of the last one."

"The mountain already came down."
