Everyone cheered and showered us with petals, I was overwhelmed by the fact that she said yes, I haven't moved for a second, she kissed me and that's the only time I realized I stood there like a statue. I hugged her and claimed her lips.
Everyone cheered, then Justin interrupted us with a "Hey!" everyone stopped on their tracked and looked at him. "What is it you idiot!?" Bea asked, a little annoyed with his boyfriend. I smiled because I know why. "Love, chill" then he hugged her. He took the silver platter with the juice and presented it to Lacey. Lacey looked at me, then I encouraged her to get the drink, she took it and saw the ring.
"Remember the accident in our first meeting? I spilled a juice on you, and if you can remember, - "this same juice was the juice you spilled on me" she finished. I smiled "yes" we looked at each other like reminiscing the day, and from that moment, were bound forever, (but since there's no forever) okay, as long as we're alive.
We're happily married for 2 years now, and like normal husband and wife, we also have our ups and downs, we have small arguments, but we always make sure to patch things up before we go to bed. Both blessings and challenges were the foundation of one's relationship. And I guessed it's one of the reasons why our relationship stands still. Lacey and I decided to live in Texas, though we're far from our friends, we still make sure that we never lose contact with them.
In our 2nd anniversary I brought her in the 'Navarro's', a Spanish restaurant for couples, as we were eating I gave her a gift, it was a pendant heart with our picture inside. She kissed and thanked me for it, "I have a surprise to you too, but I'll tell you later" I smiled "I love you baby with or without surprises, but I'd be looking forward" "You'll love me even more if you'll have my present" she joked "I'm loving this surprise already" she winked at me, and I laughed, we continued eating and suddenly the lively music switched into an old classic song.
(Playing ... Lady by Kenny Rogers)
I looked at her, and she stared back with knowing, I stood, "Can I have the honor, to dance the most beautiful lady in this room?" She chuckled, "Yes you may, Mr. Casanova" We were heading now in the dance floor. I reached for my heart and act like in pain "ouch, baby you hurt my feelings" she chuckled. I pointed to my heart "This heart? It only beats for you" I encircled my arms around her and whispered in her ears "Don't ever doubt that" She faced me "never" and our lips met. I lip sync the lines "you're the love of my life you're my lady" she smiled. As the song ended we went back to our table.
After we eat, we left, we were outside the restaurant's door when I saw a flower shop in front of it, I told Lacey to wait there, and I crossed the street. It was raining a little so I used my coat to cover myself from getting soaked. As I entered the flower shop, I saw different kinds of flower, I tried to pick the most beautiful, but since everything was just Lacey's type, it became hard to choose, so I pick each one for assurance. I requested the flower Vendor to arrange the flowers and as I was paying for it, I heard honking of vehicles, there are people who screamed, then suddenly a loud bang from the shop's door, triggered me to turned around, a lady in her forty's holding a bouquet of flowers entered, and was gasping for air, I reckon she was the assistant of the vendor, she was panicking and at the same time breathless. The Vendor asked what happened, and finally the lady blurted it out.
"A woman was hit and run by a car! full of blood, it was terrible! She looks dead!'
All of a sudden, I felt a sudden jolt of terror, I don't know where it came from, but as both the Vendor and the lady scurried out, I followed. I looked in my crossroad where I left Lacey but she was not there, not so far from it, I saw the gathered people. Maybe she's in there, I convinced myself, I decided to go there, but as I took a step, I felt my feet stocked, it won't moved. It was heavy, I tried again and slowly I advanced. As I came near I searched her face from the sea of people but I couldn't find her. I saw a crying boy, her mother cuddling him, "Andy was just in my side when I heard a loud whack, I looked at my side and I realized he wasn't there, I felt terrified, then I saw him in the street, he was down in the street, the lady saved her, oh my God! Thanks to her ,my son is saved, but she... Oh my God!" the mother explained hysterically to the two women beside her.
I looked down and saw the victim soaked in blood. I stood dead froze. The woman, it was...Lacey. I get down and took her in my arms, I didn't realized everybody turned quiet and I was stupefied, I couldn't even utter a word, then someone shouted for the ambulance, a man of thirty's told me the plate number of the vehicle that hit her. I looked at him unfocused, but I tried to remember the number, then Lacey was brought to the hospital, I was holding her hand, the paramedics were attaching dextrose and giving her oxygen, I didn't know what they're doing for I was distressed about what happened to Lacey "Baby, don't you dare leave me, We promised remember? We will go grow old together," but I did not received any response. I was shaking and I did not realize my tears were streaming down bitterly.
She was transferred to a bed wheeler and was directed into an emergency room, I wanted to follow, but I was not allowed by the nurse, I kept pacing back and forth, praying for Lacey's safety, our friends from Texas were calling me, and the news reached in the Philippines, Justin and everyone were calling me, I told them everything, they said, they will fly to Texas as soon as possible.
Then after what seems like forever, the Doctor went out, he took his gloves, and as I approached him, he looked me in the eyes "I am sorry... Sir, we've done everything but... your wife's gone" I was thunderstruck, I turned around and head for the door.
'No... Lacey, she's not gone, she couldn't...she just... she can't be gone.'
