When they had first arrived, the apple trees were shedding their leaves. Time had passed quickly, and the trees had already sprouted new buds.

Juliet King had sent an email, mentioning that the New Year was approaching and to not forget to buy new clothes for Sophia.

Miya Ford cut the remaining red paper from Mr. White's origami into paper cuttings. She wasn't very skilled, only capable of simple designs, which she had learned from the neighbors next door when she rented from Miss Watson.

"What is this?"

Cole had never seen such a thing.

Miya Ford answered with indifference, "Paper cuttings."

"Why do you stick these up?"

Miya Ford didn't respond to him; she made lots of dishes, including dumplings.

After dinner, she took Sophia upstairs to call Juliet King. Cole turned on the tablet to look up what paper cuttings were.

Sophia greeted her grandmother and came out of the room.

Cole stood at the staircase, "Who is Mom talking to on the phone?"
