William and Irwin just arrived on the first floor, and were busy in the kitchen Sophia heard the movement and then came out with their own freshly steamed potatoes, followed by the little girl, Lillian.
Sophia put the potato on the table and said to Irwin and William, "My dear friends, you finally get up. I don't need to wake you. Let's have dinner now."
The light in the house was a little dim. The windows in the house were all nailed with planks, and more than one floor was nailed. Both inside and outside were stared at.
After nailing the planks and closing the curtains, the room was almost dark. Only one side door could pass through the room normally, but there was a heavy wooden cabinet behind the side door. If there was an emergency, it could be used to block the door.
Lillian said to Irwin and William as she put the chopped smoked meat on the table with a tray in her hand.
"Irwin, William, have dinner first. I'll ask Uncle Carl to come in and have a rest."
