A bit out there

Luckas thought he caused a good impression to Bryson as he choose to travel in their carriage, the trip was a little awkward, Luckas and Byrth tried to interact with Bryson but he only ate and slept through the whole trip.

Luckas was amazed how much cake Bryson ate, his seemingly infinite stack of cake made Luckas ask himself if his spatial ring only contained cakes there, even when the convoy stopped to eat, Bryson passed on eating the stew the soldier made and sat there in the carriage eating cake.

-" We are close to arriving there, I can recognize some of the places around here." Byrth was observing the passing scenery as he spoke.

-" Finally, I was getting tired of being locked inside the carriage so much." Luckas stretched his arms, he was pumped for his first expedition.

-" Hey, I would like to visit my village, can you go with me?" Byrth emotions flashed as he remembered where he used to live.

-" Sure, sure, let's go there tomorrow, I need a little exercise after sitting around for long."

-" Oh, how about a little spar?" Byrth grinned as he asked Luckas.

-" Why not, just don't beat me up so much, after all, if I'm too sore I cant accompany you tomorrow."

Luckas and Byrth constantly sparred in the past months, this was Luckas idea as he wanted to learn who to fight, he also was getting lessons on how to wield weapons from Cyl,

-" Don't worry, I will go easy on you today, but this is surprising, I thought that you were going to ask me to beat you up like usual."

When they began to spar, Luckas got the idea of having serious fights, he need combat experience, and while sparing was helpful Luckas felt that if Byrth held back, he wouldn't get any better.

Luckas knew that even with the system if he continued like this he would die sooner or later, so his current goal was to get better at fighting, this includes getting used to pain. Luckas also felt he need work on his mindset, he knew soon or later he would have to kill someone.

This heavily weighed on his mind for some time, he keep telling himself that this wasn't the modern world where he lived, the only real law here was of the strongest, but he never could truly prepare himself.

-" Oh, that brings me memories. When I was your age, Sir Maven trained me almost like this, I commend your courage Luckas."

Luckas was surprised, in the entire trip this was the first time Bryson initiated a conversation with them.

-" May I ask who is this Sir Maven, and how he trained you?" Luckas was curious, while he felt that the way he trained now working fine, he still felt that if someone who really knew what he was doing appeared his progress would be faster.

-" Oh you don't know Sir Maven? He is Sir Stanley's Father, he was supposed to be the previous duke but he reneged his duty and isolated himself away from the affairs of men when he was young."

Luckas was surprised, he knew that Philips the previous duke wasn't Jeffrey's grandfather, he always had a curiosity why Jeffrey's grandfather didn't take the title, now he had a better idea.

-" How did Sir Maven train you? I heard that he is really strong, it must be quite the blessing to be trained by someone so talented." Byrth eyes shone as he envied Bryson's luck.

-" Luck? Those days still haunt me, I had just joined the army and I was one of his guards, the amount of suffering I passed through in the short period I stayed with him was one of the darkest moments of my life."

Luckas and Byrth were confused, they couldn't imagine what Jeffrey Grandfather did to make a seasoned soldier like Bryson think that his days with him were one of the worst of his life.

-" Is Maven a sadistic person? How can that be? Sir Jeffrey is so caring towards his subjects." Byrth didn't know what to think, even before meeting Philips and Jeffrey, he knew the fame that the Strafhamptons had as caring and just nobles.

-" Sadistic? What are you talking about? Sir Maven is one of the gentlest human beings alive." Bryson confused them even more, they thought that he didn't want to badmouth the families members of his liege.

-" So why do you hate your time with him so much? Don't tell me that you guys were captured and tortured by enemies?" Luckas felt his curiosity spike, he was thinking about thousands of situations that could happen to a young heir like Maven.

-" Oh no, it wasn't something like that, good luck capturing him, it's just that, how can I say this." Bryson looked a bit conflicted as he thought about how to describe Maven. "He is a bit out there you know? Sometimes he acts like his head isn't in the right place."

-" Is he crazy or something?" Luckas was surprised, he never thought that Jeffrey's grandfather would be crazy or anything like that, even more after learning he was one of the strongest in the kingdom.

-" Crazy is a strong word, I wouldn't use it to describe him, it's just that sometimes he acts like one."

Luckas only confirmed his doubts after seeing how hard Bryson tried to not call him crazy. Luckas felt pity for Maven, from what he heard Jeffrey Grandfather was in a league of his own, one of the dragons of his generation, but, he was unfortunately crazy.

Luckas lost himself in thought as he thought about Maven, at first he was excited to hear how this genius trained Bryson, but, when he heard that he was not just a genius, but a mad one, Luckas lost all interest in his method.

Luckas felt grateful he meet Philips the sane of the brothers first, not him.
