Chapter One

Five children sat quietly on the ground under a tree that served as a shade from the scorching sun. They seemed to be waiting for someone. .

After a while, the door to the entrance of Happy Orphanage home opened and a girl with a freckled face and long black hair came out with her shoulders slumped looking dejected.

The five children rushed to her excitedly with smoke obvious on their faces.

" How was it? Were they satisfied with your performance? "

Xu Mengjie stared at the excited children and suddenly burst out crying.

" They said....I'm too ugly....wahhhhh!!!!!" She said sadly in a heartbroken tone. Lots of parents have refused to adopt her due to her look that was considered as ugly. It was her sixth trial and she couldn't help but feel bad.

She quickly cleaned her tears and turned to face the person next to her. "Xunrou, you are next" She said and walked away from them and away from the big tree. Her skin was already tanned due to excess exposure to sunlight.

She walked until she met Huang Ziqiu, the eldest Orphan in the orphanage home. Many parents refused to adopt him claiming he was too old and won't easily be tamed.

" Big brother" She called out and ran to his side. He was rather lean and looked very malnourished but it didn't diminish his handsomeness by any means.

His brown eyes gazed deeply deeply at her then patted her head. At the age of twelve, he was already able to read people with his sharp eyes. Looking at Xu Mengjie's face, he knew without asking that she was very sad.

" Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to stay put? If Fatty bully you again, don't come running to me" He said as he took her hand and began walking back in the direction of the orphanage.

" Can we not go back now? A big uncle visited with car and I heard Madam Wang saying he was quite rich but his wife is unable to conceive. He told me that I'm too ugly and that his wife will be scared when she sees me"

" Don't mind what the big Uncle said. You are very beautiful of course." He said and then kept quiet throughout the walk.

When they got back, they met the children chatting excitedly amongst themselves without noticing the arrival of two of them.

" I heard there are plenty cars like that handsome uncle's own in the city"

" Yes, I see a lot of them in Lily's notebook."

Xunrou was already feeling smug internally. She was glad that she would finally have to leave the countryside and live with a certain rich uncle and his wife in the city.

Her departure was quickly scheduled to the next day and the children decided to chat through the night without sleeping.

The next day, the rich uncle arrived with his wife as promised and handled all of the legal matters efficiently. Before long, Xunrou was already gone along with her new parents.

The children got bored of playing with themselves and decided to pay a visit to Liling, the village chief's daughter who loved to be called Lily.

" Wash your hands, legs and face before you enter" Liling said coldly as they were about to step into the house. The children paid no attention to her tone and happily washed their bodies.

" You are just in time. The final episode of 'Happy life' is about to air" She said as they settled comfortably in the living room.

" That's great. I will be able to see Zhao Zhu for the last time" Xu Mengjie said happily. She had been a big fan of Zhao Zhu since she arrived at the orphanage he two years ago. She wanted to be just like her when she grew up.

In the TV series, Zhao Zhu played as a poor village girl who went to the city to pursue her dreams and met with a rich handsome guy that fell in love with her at first sight but due to their social status, they had to encounter lots of problems together.

Xu Mengjie especially admired Zhao Zhu's confidence in the film that she vowed just to be like her. She wanted to visit the city in search of her Parents that left her at the orphanage with the promise of picking her up a year later.

They watched the last episode quietly and began jubilating when Zhao Zhu finally got the happy ending she deserved.

" I wish to be like Zhao Zhu when I grow up"

" Me too!!" The children echoed happily still remembering the last moment when Zhao Zhu got married to the man of her choice after his parents finally gave them their blessings.

While they were still talking about what happened in the last episode, an entertainment news began playing.

" This has never happened before in history. The prestigious Xu family organised an elaborate birthday celebration that cost millions of yuan for their only child who just clocked six years old. Xu Xiaomeng must be really lucky to be born in the Xu family "

The birthday events began replaying on the screen as they showed Xu Xiaomeng playing piano in front of the audience with a bright smile in the big event hall.

The camera moved to the faces of her parents staring fondly at her with their arms linked together.

" That's my mum and dad!!" Xu Mengjie suddenly yelled pointing at the television screen.

The children suddenly became quiet and stared at her in confusion. It was their first time hearing her talk about her parents. They didn't believe it at all. If she was really related to the Xu family, why does she have to live in a very poor orphanage home with only few clothes to wear.

Xu Mengjie turned to them and noticed doubt in their eyes. She was at loss. She knew it would be hard for them to believe her.

" Xiaomeng is my younger sister. We grew up together but my parents told me to live at this orphanage home for a while. My granny gave me a present while I was coming here. I will show you when we get back if you don't believe " She said confidently and turned to watch the television with rapid attention.

She felt quite jealous of her younger sister when her parents ran to shower her with hugs and Kisses. She still couldn't understand the reason they brought her to stay in the orphanage home that was full of sufferings.
