Fighting to the End

Jessie didn't think she had any more tears to give, but the sounds from the stage pierced her to the core. How many times had they forced Min Jun to shock himself with the cattle prod as a form of entertainment? Shirley's cackles and hand-clapping made it clear this was totally for her entertainment.

She had no idea how strong the voltage was in a cattle prod or how badly Min Jun was hurt, but she could tell from his painful moans and the curses gritted out between clenched teeth that the volts were taking a toll on him.

Jessie struggled to stand, to chance the light blinding her further than the lamps already had to rush to his side, to share his pain and protect him if she could. But Sam wouldn't allow it. His grip on each shoulder held her in place.

Sam whispered in her ear, "Be patient, Jessie, it will be over soon. Let her have her revenge. She needs this more than you need to protect  him."
