Sparked to Action

Matt took his time walking across the field to the tennis courts rather than walking the curving paved pathway. The sun beat down on him as he kicked up grass clippings. Crickets chirped, and two ducks on the pond bank argued the merits of duck feed like two bickering old men.

The tennis court, however, appeared deserted from this angle, but Matt knew from jogging the parking that he would find a covered picnic table on the other side. If anyone were meeting him, it would be there.

He was right. As he circled to the far side, he saw two girls with long hair and short skirts sitting on a picnic table. Two boys in football jerseys sat on the benches before them. The kid with sun-bleached curls ran a hand up and down the thinner girl's leg. She giggled and swatted at his hand.
