FILE.20

"You have a boyfriend, don't you?"

Rosie had been propping the pillow behind her to get comfortable when her best friend made that ridiculous accusation. Pulling the phone from her ear, she stared at it with surprise for a brief moment before putting it back.

Then she said, "Where the heck is that coming from, Lizzie?"

"Your phone always gives a busy signal whenever I try to call you after work," Lizzie reasoned matter-of-factly. "Someone is definitely hogging the line and it sure isn't me. So who is it?"

Ah.

It was probably because of Rosie's nightly phone calls with Cedric. She'd taken to reading entries from her journals to him every night since he went away. He'd always sound weary whenever he called so she thought to cheer him up with her crappy poems and rhymes. A ritual that she'd yet to get used to but definitely liked. She liked hearing from him. Liked talking to him. Probably too much that it was starting to shake her resolve not to let her stupid self fall for him.
