FILE.22

"They're in there, Rosie."

"Well, they aren't," Rosie said, blowing out a puff of air in frustration. She was sitting cross-legged on the carpeted floor with the opened package in front of her, talking to her mother on her cell phone.

"Did you look carefully?"

"I did, Mom. But they're really not in here."

"I don't understand," her mother began to mumble. "I'm certain I put your red photo albums in the package. I double-checked and everything."

"Yeah, first of all, they're not red but salmon pink. And second, yes. They really aren't here." She turned the box over until all the contents were spilled out on the carpet. " All I see are my yearbooks and old journals. No junior high photo albums."

"Was the package damaged or tampered with when it arrived there?"

"No." Rosie tipped the empty box over like somehow the albums would magically fall on the carpet. "And who would want those photo albums anyway?"
