The journey towards the Moonlake had been dangerous enough, but the swimming through its murky waters, trying to find the cave had been a nightmare. Nin didn't even know if she had enough magic left to be able to breathe the water.
And just as she felt like she couldn't take another breath...
Stale, humid air came into her lungs. But still air nonetheless.
Climbing out of the underwater cave, going into the air pocket it held, onto the stone outcropping inside, Nin laid down. She stood there, panting, soaking wet. She felt like laughing and crying at the same time.
Laughing because she had managed to outsmart the darkness and escape its people. Crying because despite that, she was stuck, no more magic to help her get out until she got some proper rest.
She slipped off the bracelet Maria's father had given her. It would be of no use to drain his power while she was here. She didn't even know if it was useful at all anymore.
