Attack
Aria's P O V
It's been a whole week since I've been held up here in my room. I'm thinking of visiting my parents, but I don't know if Lara will help me because she is still annoyed with me until now.
I've just been feeling weird this week as if some part of me has gone missing. I know I only played sick, but I think I'm becoming sick little by little.
I haven't seen the crown prince since then, I don't want anything happening to my parents.
I don't know what I'm going to do now, honestly, one can only take a one-week sick leave here. I'll have to continue working tomorrow, I can't continue cleaning the west wing. Let me go now, I need to beg the third madam in charge of us to change my post.
I heard next week is the slave's night too. I might also feign sickness as not to watch the performance.
I got to the madam's door and knocked. A maid opened the door.
“What do you want?” She questioned.
“I want to speak with the madam,” I told.
“She is having her bath. Come back,” she said and shut the door immediately.
What…silly maid? I turned, not knowing where else to go but starts heading to the gardening area. There aren't many people around there, it's always peaceful there, well, except morning.
“Hey,” I heard and turned sharply to look at him.
“Hi,” I waved. It's that Beta guard, Marcus.
“Hey, it's been so long I'd seen you last. What have you been up to?” He asked, with a soft smile on his face.
“I've been okay, just stuck here.” I sighed.
“What do you mean stuck here? Do you want to go out? Do you want me to take you out of here for a few hours?” He inquired.
“You can do that?” I asked, my eyes wide with joy.
“Yes, it's a piece of cake. You just need to follow me out.” He nodded.
“I want to visit my parents. Wait, let me change my wears into something else.” I, half yelled with a big smile as I ran inside and to my room.
I changed wears quickly and rushed out to see him standing where I left him.
“I'm ready,” I notified. He turned to look at me.
“You look great,” he complimented, making me blush.
“Thank you.” I don't get such compliments regularly.
Now, staring at him, I think he is quite handsome for a Beta. He seems fit, and he is way taller than me. I'm short anyway.
“Let's go,” he pointed, and I followed his direction until we were out of the palace.
“But, aren't we supposed to take some kind of permission?” I turned to him and asked.
“No, I don't need that. It's my shift, I have nothing to do now, so no one will look for me.” He explained.
“Oh,” I shook my head.
“I just need to get back before my shift starts. You don't have any problem because you are also free, am I right?” He looked down at me as he asked.
“Yes, I don't have a problem with it,” I answered.
“So, where is your house? Let's go there.” He probed.
“Oh, you'll follow me there?”
“Of course, I have to protect you. Let's take a cab,” he suggested.
“No, no. I haven't walked for a long time, I want to walk there.” I disagreed. Truth is, I would like to avoid owing him.
I know he'll pay for the cab, so I would like to avoid owing him any favours.
“Let's take the woods in that case.” He recommended again.
“Okay,” I couldn't refuse this time.
We took a turn and followed the woods before you know it, we got surrounded by unknown wolves.
“Wait, what on earth?” I gasped.
Are we going to get killed now? I was starting to panic.
“Who are you guys?” Marcus questions them, but the answer he got was an attack on him.
He moved me behind him and starts fighting them while I watch.
Woah, he is good at fighting. No wonder he got picked as a night guard.
In a few minutes, he has dealt with them all.
“Let's go,” the one that seems to be the leader barked to the others, and they vanished the next minute.
He turned to look at me with worried lines on his face.
“Are you okay?” He inquired.
“Why is he asking me that?” I should be asking him now. He is the one who fought them off, and he is the one injured immediately.
“You… You are bleeding,” I pointed at his wrist.
He looked down at his injured wrist, but only covered it with his shirt.
“Their weapon is laced with wolfsbane, it'll take time to heal.” He enlightened.
“Oh my! I'm so sorry, it's all my fault.” Now I feel awful, maybe we should have just taken the cab, and I'll owe him for that.
I feel the worst now that he is injured.
“This is nothing, let's just go before they come back. I don't know who they are,” he grabbed my hand and start leaving the woods.
We got to my parents' small house and I didn't waste time getting him a first aid box. I sat him down and treated his wound.
“It's the least I can do to help, I'm sorry.” I apologized before leaving with the box.
Mom and dad aren't home. I wonder where they are.
“My mom and dad are not home currently, do you want me to make you anything?” I inquired.
“Well, I'll be telling a lie if I say that my throat is not dry. I need water with ice,” he replied.
“Okay, I'll get that now.” I rushed into the sitting room and to the fridge to get him what he wants.
I came back and handed it to him.
“Thank you,” after gulping down the water, he handed the cup back to me.
“So, what are you going to do now?” He asked.
“I'll… I'll just wait for them for some time, I'm sure they'll be back by then.” I smiled briefly as I explained.
“Alright good.” He nodded.

“Mom, Dad,” I yelled as I ran to embrace them.
"Mom, is everything alright? You both look tired. Where are you coming from?” I probed, staring at them.
“From the small farmland we were asked to clear, you don't need to worry, dear. How have you been?” Mom explained, looking at me.
“I've been okay.” I shook my head before turning to introduce Marcus.
“Mom, Dad, this is Marcus, he got injured while fighting the wolves that wanted to harm me,” I told them.
Dad gasped.
“Really? Thank you, sir, for helping my daughter. I'm so grateful, sir.”
“Ria, you didn't prepare anything for him to eat.” Dad stared at me.
“No, it's no problem, sir. I'm okay, I promise.” Simon shook his head.
“It's a pleasure to meet you, young man.” Mom told him, he stared at her with a smile on his face, but the smile soon vanished. He stared at mom and dad with a confused look on before I spoke up.
“Is anything the matter, Marcus?” I inquired.
“No, not at all. Everything is great, you know what? I just remembered that my childhood friend's house is not too far from here. I'll go see him before returning.”
“Don't leave without me, okay?”
“Okay,” I smiled as I watched him go.
“I think he is a great young man, Ria. How did you get to know him? And by the way, where is your best friend?” Mom questioned.

Damon's P O V
“Oh no, Damon. I just got the report that your supposed mate is hanging out with another guy.” Matthew spoke from the other line.
“Who is he? How did they know each other?” I questioned.
“Calm down, I also don't know much. I heard he is a guard here at the palace, that's all. But as to how they became close, I have no idea.” He responded.
“Find out everything about the damn guard, he might be a bad influence on her,” I ordered.
“No, he is not a bad influence. He is a good one actually, he saved your mate from getting injured or possibly killed today.” He supplied.
“What do you mean by that? Isn't Dave watching her, or is he slacking off his duty?” I groaned.
“Of course, Dave is watching her, how could he know what happened if he wasn't there to witness it himself? When he saw that the guard is skilled in fighting, he didn't step out and just watched as the guard beat the whole of them that came to harm Aria.” He clarified.
“Well, that doesn't mean a thing to me. Tell Dave to always protect her, he shouldn't repeat what he did again. He shouldn't leave his responsibility for others.” I warned.
“Dude, you can call him and inform him that. It's not yet confirmed that she is your mate, but you are being overprotective, I wonder what will happen if she happens to be your mate.” He made a noise with his tongue, I can't see him, but I know he must be shaking his head.
“Fûck you, Matthew. Fûck off my phone.” I groaned and disconnected the call.
I think I need to go back now and handle these matters by myself, I originally I'm supposed to send Arya back tomorrow, but I think I'll go with her. I've had a lot of fun these past fun days, anyway. I haven't set my eyes on Betty after she left with her bitchy friend Ella. I honestly don't care whether she is okay or not. I just need my peace of mind.
But I've rested enough. I'll be heading back tomorrow.
With that thought, I brought out my phone and placed a call.

Aria's P O V
I walked slowly and side by side back to the palace. We haven't been talking much, I feel he is lost in thought.
“Marcus,” I called, and he looked down at me.
“Is anything the matter?” I was tired of walking in silence…
“No, no big deal.” He smiled.
“But you haven't spoken much. And, yeah, I want to ask. What did you approach me? Why are you talking to me?” I implored.
“Because you are you, and I think you're cool.” He responded, looking honest.
I smiled and nodded.
“I don't think I'm cool, though. But thanks for the compliment.”
He chuckled and suddenly halted.
“I want to ask you something. Those people, are they your biological parents?” He asked.
I frowned as I stared up at him.
“Oh, I don't mean to offend you. You just don't smell like it. Sorry,” he apologized.
“Well, numerous people have said that to me already, but it still hurts every time I hear it. They are my biological parents.” I answered.
“And they are living fine, aren't they?” He asked, looking pretty curious.
“Yes, why?” I was getting even more curious:
“Well, because I noticed that they both are badly injured. Didn't you perceive the smell of blood from them? Especially your dad.” He questioned.
“No, I didn't. They are injured? Why didn't you tell me then?" I shouted, panicking.
“Hey, calm down. It depends on how they got injured. They said they are working on a farm, so it might not be serious. Numerous accidents can happen on farmland, so it might not be alarming, they might have also hidden their injuries from you because they didn't want you to worry about them. So calm down, parents tend to be like that.” He patted my back.
“But…” I wanted to protest.
“It's late today, I can take you to see them tomorrow if you want.” He suggested.
“Really? I'll be so grateful.” I smiled expectantly.
“Alright, tomorrow then. We are here.” He pointed out, I looked around to notice that we already arrived at the palace gate.
“Tomorrow, you should meet me in the garden by 3:00 pm.” He notified me, I bobbed my head in agreement.
“Thank you.” I thanked him as I went through the palace gates.
