CHAPTER 11: EVIL HEART

♤♤

"She doesn't have to say what she said. Go and ask your wife since she has you wrapped around her finger. We would be leaving first thing tomorrow Morning, Its obvious your new family don't want us here. "My mum spoke and her words were like bullets to My heart.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. Getting up from the bed. "Umma. Why are you so defensive over this girl she did something wrong she needs to account for her actions. You cant just be taking her side even when everyone knows shes wrong."

"Don't worry Abba since you are now challenging me i would leave your house.. i cant stay here." She paused shaking her head forcefully. "After my own son accused me of lying. Believes his own wife over his own mother. Who carried him for 9 months. Allah ya kiyaye. Please Yushrah pack my things, I cant take this."

I didn't utter a word and Yushrah didn't move aswell. "Umma kiyakuri." Yushrah sat by Umma calming her down.

No matter how life turns out your mother is your mother even if she were to be a Mad woman you would still love her. Or even a witch you would never hate her. Because she is irreplaceable.

"I will only stay in this house. when your wife comes down and apologies to me. For what she said."

"You're saying 'she said'. But what exactly did she say. Tell me." She furrowed her brows she was getting angrier by the second. And i can understand I know she hates been wrong.

I stood there thinking of my nect course of action before finally deciding to call Ihsan. I got upstairs by the time I was in our room Ihsan was sitting at the edge of the bed her curly hair which fell covering half of her face from the side.

"Ihsan." Her head shot up to meet my face. Using her hands she picked up a ribbon and packed up her hair into a messy ponytail before I finally got in front of her. "What's wrong." She could tell something was wrong from my cleansed jaw.

"I need you to come downstairs. I just want go clarify Something's." Her brows where thinner and in a straight line. "Clarify what exactly?" She was getting defensive. I knew she didn't even want to see my mother again. And I think i understand why but right now I am confused. I know for a fact my mother would never lie to me. And my wife aswell. But who do i believe whose side should i stick?

My mother or my wife.

"Don't worry. Lets go everything would be fine." I didn't just want Her apology but maybe if I heard both sides of the story at the same time and the other clarifies which part is a lie then maybe we would find out who is the liar.

Its disheartening knowing my wife and mother don't like each other. But this is the only way rather than both of them keeping grudges in the same house.

My mother is probably hurt that Ihsan touched Basma but it was clearly Basma's fault. How dare she talk about my mother in law like that. "Lets just go? Are you even hearing your self. I'm not going anywhere. She threatened me Abdullah. I always forgive but if anyone involves my mother in any issue the person is going to get there apology else where." She spoke almost out of breath and full of rage.

I don't think I have seen her this angry before. She loves her mother so much and I understand. She stood up and walked across the room in her pink sweat pants and black shirt. She pulled the drawer open and removed a black veil from it. She wrapped it around her head.

"Im not going down to meet or talk to your Mother. I'm going down stairs to eat. No one will come and oppress me in my husband's house." She mumbles the last part under her breathe but i still heard it. Ihsan's anger was never funny.

She walked to the door but I stooped her "Ihsan." She turned. "Please. Just imagine you were in my shoes." I started walking slowly towards her. "Who would you believe if I told you your Mother did something to me. And then you meet your Mother and she says something different. Who would you believe. Your mother or me." She looked away looking wistful.

She backed me, She turned the knob and walked out leaving the door open for me. "Lets go." I was in front but when I got to the living room I saw Umma and Basma already in the living room. "Where is Nana?" Ihsan asked from behind me. "In her room with Hauwa."

I sat on the two seater which was closest to the other two seats. Yushrah who just came out from the kitchen with a confused look on her face wondering what was going on.

Whilst Ihsan sat far away from us on a one seater closest to the foyer. "So Umma.. Ihsan is here." She looked over to her whilst Ihsan had her eyes on the arm rest staring blankly at it with her legs crossed around the ankle.

"Ihsan. I just want to know why you hit Basma. Look at her face she has bruises every where." Ihsan stayed silent. "Basma did you say anything to her?" I rectify.

"I only said my Friends came over and Ya Ihsan got angry." Ihsan's head rose up like with the same unchanging smile with which she had first entered the room with. "Basma?"

"You're telling lies about me right in front of me?" Basma immediately looked at Umma who came in to rescue her yet again. "Not only have you called me a liar but now my daughter." She clapped her hands

I heard Ihsan mumble a low "Innalilahi". And then Looks over to me. A part of me is openly telling me my sisters and mother are hiding something. Its more like three tigers growing after a little cup if I don't stop them they might wound her. Or worse, eat her up. "Yushrah did you see what happened." She shook her head with a sad look. " I didn't even know something happened today." I nodded to her and turned to Ihsan

"Finish what you were saying. Umma lets hear her side of the story. You know Basma is known for lying sometimes."

"Basma barged in on us. That is Hauwa and I, she insulted me in front of her. Ask her for proof if you will. Insulted my mother even. Imagine, Is it because I joke around with that makes you think you can come up to me and talk to me like that." Ihsan spoke so calmly yet in an angry tone. From her facial expression you can truly tell she was afflicted.

"Basma is this true.?" Umma asked. "No its not. That wasn't what happened. I ba-rged in on her and Hau-wa talking- they were dis-cussing about how much she hated us stayi-ng here. Then she got a-ngry and slapped me be-cause I told her she shouldn't worry we would soon leave her alone for ever. I was shocked when -she did." She broke in-between speech.

Ihsan calmed look turned bizarre.

"Basma! You're lying in front of me. Ashe you are an evil person."

My mother rose to her feet "The only evil person here is you. I told you the next time I see you in front of me would be when you are apologising to my daughter. And you are calling her evil."

"Why do you always believe what this girl says to you. Get up.." I motioned to Basma. She looked at mother waiting for her to tell her not to but she didn't "Ke I'm I not talking to you, You're going back to your schools. Hostel this moment."

"Ummma!" She called to Umma who ignored her keeping her gaze on Ihsan. With a disgust look. It burnt me seeing her looking at the love of my life like that. "Basma." She strolled to the front door looking back and fourth with glassy eye's. I tapped my pocket and felt my keys in it. "But Yahya it's late." Yushrah spoke this time.

I ignored her walking to Ihsan and spoke so low only she could hear. "Go to the room lock the door and don't answer to any one until I get back."

At this point I didn't want to trust any one anymore
