‘Did he ask you to get me?’ She asked with an expression full of expectations.

‘No, he left.’ I hated being the bearer of bad news, but the cold water had to be poured.

I watched her drop her phone and start the engine with trembling hands and a depressed sigh.

'Alicia, you knew about this?' Mum asked.

'Mum, we should be talking about Kassy and not Nate. He chose his life and he's paying for it. That should not bother us.' I knew I was overstepping but I really just wanted mum to focus on one child at a time.

'Mauve, you should leave.' Eric said.

Mauve looked at me and sucked her teeth before leaving.

'Stacy, I think you should go to sleep, it's almost 5pm, Frank and I will go to the police station now.' Eric said.

I liked that he was taking charge but I still wished that Kassy would walk through the door. It was going to make everything easier.

'Yeah mum, you should go to bed, Kolin and I will spend the night so you won't be alone.' I said.

'Alicia, you have no idea how I feel, I have two children in trouble at the moment and you expect me to sleep?'

Of course I did not expect her to sleep, I just wanted her to know that I was there for her.
