‘Did he ask you to get me?’ She asked with an expression full of expectations.

‘No, he left.’ I hated being the bearer of bad news, but the cold water had to be poured.

'I don't know but this must be the reason she didn't want to go to see Lily when she was ill. She also did not go to see Emily when Lily finally died. She was feeling guilty.'

'Are we going to tell the police?' I asked.

'And risk mum going to jail? We can't do that.'
