Marises Pov
It was currently August as the temperature in Spain was hot, a heatwave was taking place, causing the grass that was once green and lush, brown and burnt down.
Edira and I spent most of the daytime down in a river in the woods, a few miles away from the cabin. It was unsustainable to be indoors. It was a sauna during the daytime, and we haven't fixed any fan or air conditioner yet.
We found a shallow part of the river where we could sit and splash around most of the day to cool off. We could sit and talk for hours or just be quiet. I loved that with Edira. We did not always have to talk but we could sit quietly in consent and enjoy each other's company in silence. I just needed to feel her presence to feel calm.
I was so lucky to have her in my life. She is so wise, kind with a brave heart. Sometimes it feels like she has lived for an eternity, and I often find myself deep in thought after we had spoken for hours, processing it all.
"How are you today? Your energy feels calmer and more satisfied." Edira gave me a puzzled look and played with her foot in the water.
"Yes, I feel more like my true self today. The nights are hard. But it's getting better." I fired a smile at her and playfully splashed water at her face.
"Hey, now you're asking for it."
Edira gaped playfully at me and threw herself over me. We rolled around in the water and screamed joyfully while splashing around us. We then lay next to each other and laughed hysterically. God, it's been a long time since I laughed genuinely with my whole soul. "We should get back soon and then head into town to buy food," Edira said after we caught our breaths and calmed down from the laughing. I was about to answer her when we both felt a presence in the air. Something had changed in an instant. We glanced at each other and stood up, close to each other. Three men were spotted coming down by the river bank close by. Werewolves. We were struck by their smell and they quickly closed the distance between us. They were large and muscular and all three had black hair and a similar tribal tattoo over the left arm. A pack tattoo. I was sure of since a lot of packs had their own.
"What do we have here then, boys?" One of them said, a guy with black hair up in a bun on his head. He grinned angrily, while the other two nodded in agreement, grinning.
"It must be our lucky day."
One of them continued and elbow the third. The three men stopped a few meters away from us and stared at us with resentful eyes. A look that only meant trouble
"Go away."
Edira said calmly and pulled me behind her in order to protect me.
They started laughing scornfully at her reply, and it must have looked a bit strange when she pulled me behind her since I am a head taller than her.
"No, we'll have some fun first." One of them replied and took a threatful step forward.
"Hosiana."Edira moved her right arm in a quick motion. The water lifted and created a barrier between us and the guy quickly took several steps back, and the other ones followed.
"F*cking witch."
He roared and looked angrily at us through the barrier.
"Yes, a fucking witch who will drown you with pleasure if you take a step closer."
I felt Edira's triumphant feeling, making me smile scornfully back at the men.
"Leave us, let us break up in peace, guys." I added and stepped forward next to Edira's side.
The guys shook their heads and stood still. Edira pushed the barrier towards them a bit, which made them take a few more steps back.
"I will count to three." Said Edira, giving them a warning look.
"One." They stood and exchanged glances between them, and I could see that they were talking through their mind link.
"Two." Then everything happened too fast. The boys shifted into their wolves and then threw themselves through the barrier. We did not have any time to react.
I felt myself being pushed back into the water by a pair of paws and then I felt them shift back into a pair of hands for a brief moment. Ah, young pup. This guy was new at shifting and I could feel that he was weaker than me, but I was not trained in combat, which he certainly was.
I tried to free myself and I felt water fill up my lungs and the panic for air crept up on me. I fought around and was then pulled up over the water surface again. I coughed and spat out the water and then saw the guy with the bun staring at me while his grip hardened over my arms while he sat cross-legged over me.
I looked to the left and saw how Edira fought the other two, one guy held her arms in a tight grip from behind while the other one sat over her. S*it.
"Get away from me, idiot." I unfolded my claws on my fingers and managed to tear him over his forearm.
"You fucking b*tch." He roared black and pushed me under the water again. I managed to hold my breath just before I got below the surface. I heard Edira roar something, but could not make out the words as the water was ringing in my ears.
I counted to three and then unfolded the claws from my toes and pulled them up and I managed to tear them over his lower body and I saw the water was stained by his blood and I felt his grip loosen while he roared in pain.
I took my chances and threw myself over him while I shifted into Rona in the motion. We landed over him while I tore off a piece of his shoulder with my teeth which made him cry out in pain and the blood was seeping out.
I turned to Edira and flew at the guys that held her, but both of them had time to get themselves out of my way before I landed with a splash.
Edira shifted into Aesira and both guys shifted equally on either side of us. Their wolves were brown but, they were low in rank. And now they backed away instinctively when they saw and felt my wolf's status and energy. Even though I'm a woman, Rona is huge and I am an Alpha's daughter on both sides of my bloodlines. They just made a huge mistake. And they felt it.
