Greer picked himself off the floor, recovering from the effects of the garlic. "You see what happens when you're careless," he spat at Gavin. "We've barely moved into our new offices, and the vampire slayers are already on our trail."
"The Dark Board isn't going to be happy about that," Penelope said, looking worried. "It doesn't bode well for the tone of the next twenty-five years."
"I wouldn't be so quick to lay the blame at our feet," Gavin said, looking slyly at Lily. "From what I understand, the mortals are still blaming the attacks in Central Park on animals. There's nothing to suggest they're getting out the pitchforks and coming after us." He studied his perfectly-manicured nails. "That slayer was on a specific mission. We just got in the way."
