I practically run down the stairs expecting to greet Bron alone. But when the door swings open, I see that he has arrived with Veronica. What the hell? This is the very woman he just warned me about and now he’s suddenly chummy enough with her to show up at a party together?


She looks stunning as usual. Perfect makeup, hair, and outfit. But I am beginning to realize that maybe her looks are all she has going for her. That and a rich boyfriend. I suppose meeting him is off the table now that she has shown up with what was supposed to be my date.


I wonder what other surprises tonight has in store for us.


“Rainy, it’s so nice to see you! You look stunning in that outfit.” Veronica winks at me. What’s this? Is she actually being nice to me for once? How strange.


“It’s so nice of Bron to accompany me. My date will be showing up a little later and I didn’t want to come alone.” She puts her arm on Bron’s shoulder in a move that almost seems possessive.
