Chapter 54: Heart To Heart

Rowan hooked the back over her shoulder and held the folder close to her chest as if she was afraid someone would steal it out of her hands. The pain she felt in her chest seemed to grow as the seconds ticked by.

“Well,” she began hoping her voice didn’t tremble as badly as it felt. “I appreciate all your help. Bun-Bun didn’t want to come home with me, so I hope you don’t mind keeping an eye on her until she’s ready to… well... until she is healed up.”

“Of course not,” Fyn told her. “But I think we need to talk, Rowan.”

Rowan quickly shook her head. “There’s nothing to say, Fyn. All is well. I just need to head home.”

“Don’t start with that bullsh*t, Rowan,” Fyn spat out.

Rowan’s head jerked up, startled by his sudden outburst. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me, Rowan. I’ve had enough of these… blatant lies—”

“I haven’t lied to you, Fyn,” Rowan interrupted.

Well, not completely. Rowan added in her head. But she had never told him the complete truth, as well.
