As soon as he had awakened from Mateo’s knock-out blow, the guards had forced him outside to fight other shifters. They called it “training.” But it had only taken a moment for Fyn to see the truth. The guards would force them to fight until one of them was bleeding and almost dead.


Fyn out and out refused to fight anyone. Even when they threatened to beat him, he still refused. Out of the corner of Fyn's eye, he saw the “trainer” coming at him with a syringe filled with either the drug to put him to sleep or make him lose control and attack like a wild animal. Waiting until the last moment, Fyn spun away before they could touch him and attacked the man holding the syringe. He made absolutely certain that the first casualty of the attack was the syringe, so they couldn’t use it on him.


His apparent revolt sparked the same disobedience in other shifters surrounding them. Before the guards knew what was happening, they had a full-scale riot.
