Chapter 37: The Threat

Blaze was waiting for her in a corner booth thirty minutes later when she opened the door and cautiously stepped inside.

The place was nearly empty, given it was mid-afternoon between the lunch and dinner rushes, but also because it really wasn’t that great of a sushi place. The lighting was dingy and the upholstery on the booths needed replacing.

Rebecca swallowed. The fishy smell inside the small restaurant was aggravating her nausea. She needed to find out what Blaze had up his sleeve and then get out.

She slid into the booth across from him. “What’s this about?” she asked tersely.

Blaze grinned, scooping up part of a California roll with chopsticks and shoving it into his mouth. “Patience, Becky, I’m still eating.”

She closed her eyes briefly and willed the gorge rising in her throat to stay down. She would *not* embarrass herself by vomiting all over the table.
