My parents wanting to see the hideout is not what I expected, but it’s better than what I thought they would say. It’s confirmation that they believed every single word that came out of my mouth. They believed that the war isn’t what it seems and that those on the Council are selfish a**holes. They’re okay with how I met and befriended other Mystics, joined them in some rebellion, helped them gather other Mystics to join the cause.
Despite that, I can’t help but think that I misheard something or they didn’t actually say it at all, and it’s all in my head. It’s not real. How can I say what’s real and what isn’t when people like me are often said not to exist, when my existence is merely myth?
An awkward chuckle jumps from my throat. “You… you want to see the hideout. You’re serious. This isn’t some ‘pretending that what I say is true when you don’t actually believe that it is’ kinda joke?”
