Chapter 7: First Date

Parker had no idea what to wear for her date with Damien. She tried on all her outfits, and it all felt so juvenile. Maybe Lissa had been right about her needing to grow up and step out of her comfort zone. She hadn’t had to worry about what she wore in so long, because everyone was always focused on Lissa. She had just gotten used to being on the side, and that meant she never had to be self-conscious about what she wore.

Normally, she would call Lissa for advice, but Lissa still wasn’t speaking to her. She also didn’t want to create a larger rift by telling Lissa she was going on a date with the boy that turned her down.

“How’s it going in here?” Blanche asked, knocking on Parker’s closed door and then letting herself into the room. “Why are your curtains closed on such a nice night?”

“Mom, don’t!” Parker said, but her mother had already pulled the curtains open. Parker groaned. There was no strange bird outside, and the window was free of the peeping eyes of her neighbor too!
