Chapter 15: Homecoming

Parker had never been to a school dance before. She’d never wanted to go because she didn’t have anyone to go with. Besides, she didn’t think she could ever find a dress that would match her features

Now that she had a date, she had to find the right dress.

“Can you take me dress shopping, mom?” Parker asked the day before homecoming.

“You’ve never asked me that before,” Blanche said. Parker smiled shyly.

“Well, Damien is going to take me to Homecoming. I need a dress,” she explained. Blanche smiled widely, putting a hand on her daughter’s cheek.

“That is great!” she said enthusiastically. “My afternoon is clear.”

They went to a small dress shop, and the retail assistant hovered around Parker every time she paused to eye a dress.

“Not that one,” the woman said.

“Excuse me?” Parker asked.
