Chapter 45: Crash Course

Parker and Lucien returned to her house before dawn. She felt a little weak like she was tired, but it wasn’t the same as human fatigue.

“You’ll need to rest,” Lucien explained to her, motioning to the bed. “Over time, you’ll be able to sustain your strength for longer periods of time. The transformation is rough, though.”

“You’ll stay with me?” Parker asked. She laid down on her bed and held a hand out to Lucien. He smirked and got onto the bed with her, wrapping his arms around her. Parker closed her eyes.

She understood almost immediately what Lucien had said when he told her that he didn’t sleep in the way a human slept. Eyes closed, she was still aware of everything around her, including her body and Lucien’s body beside her. But her mind felt like it separated itself into an altered state of consciousness like she was meditating.
