Mary stood there unmoving, she was still in a daze at what just happened. She was finally pulled back to the present when someone passed by her, slightly brushing her side. It was then she realized that she was still standing in the middle of the path leading to the restroom. She quickly cleared her throat, regained her composure, and rushed to the restroom.
When she came out, Little Wendy and Diana were waiting for her at the entrance with shopping bags in their hands.
"What took you so long?"Diana questioned Mary looking slightly worried.
"Umm...there was a ..a small queue at the girls' restroom" she stuttered, leaving the part where she bumped into a handsome guy.
"Alright, let's get going, we need to get home fast and start the preparations for the party," she said and they started walking towards the parking lot.
Meanwhile, Emma had dropped Sylvester at the Breckley's mansion. When Sylvester entered the mansion, he realized that his father had returned from his factory and was waiting with his mom in the lounge.
He walked toward his parents knowing that he had to inform them about his part-time job, keeping in mind that they wouldn't be very happy about the news.
Sylvester took a few tentative steps toward his parents, It wasn't that he was scared to tell his parents about the job, but he was quite certain that they would refuse outright when he broke the news to them. He was contemplating whether to tell them or just keep it a secret. In the end, he decided to tell them and he braced himself for whatever would come next.
When Mr. Breckley spotted his son approaching them, he signaled him to sit on the couch facing them. Sylvester sat down and a short silence ensued between them.
Mr. Joshua was the first to speak breaking the silence.
"Son, your mother informed me that you wanted to discuss something with us, "he said, his face looking serious."Is everything alright with you?"Mr. Joshua questioned, his voice holding a glint of concern in it.
Mr. Joshua knew that his son was not the talkative type. He was reserved and kept his thoughts to himself most of the time, he didn't really open up, not even to his parents and when he heard that, his son wanted to speak to them about something, he felt it was a serious matter.
A small sigh escaped Sylvester's lips and he sat up on the couch ready to break the news.
"Dad ...." he finally spoke and Mr. Joshua and his wife turned attentive, anticipating what their son had to say.
"I've decided to work at Mr. Wilfred's cafe for the time being, probably till our results would be out" Sylvester dropped the bombshell.
As soon as those words flew out of Sylvester's lips, Mr.Joshua's face twisted in distaste and his wife held the same expression.
Sylvester was quick to notice the look of displeasure that had registered on the faces of his parents.
"Why do you want to work now, and who is Mr. Wilfred??!" came Mrs. Rose's voice obviously holding the rising anger that was bubbling inside her after she heard that her son wanted to work for someone."We have enough money to cater for your every need and if you needed something, you could have just told us, why do you need to work??" she was almost yelling now.
"It's not that mom, I'm not working just for the money, I just wanted to do something for myself for the time being, until our results would be out, it's better than sitting around doing nothing, "Sylvester stated frantically.
"If that's really what you wanted to do, you could have just told your dad and you could help him out at his factory, instead of some lousy cafe" "Mrs.Rose tried to reason with her son.
"You know that dad doesn't like people interfering with his work, I know I'm his son, but I still have no knowledge about his work," Sylvester replied.
Mrs. Rose heaved a deep sigh. It was futile talking to this son of hers, especially when he had already made up his mind.
"Who is this Mr. Wilfred?"Mr. Joshua who was quiet the whole time finally spoke.
"He owns the renowned cafe in the heart of the town," Sylvester replied to his father's question.
After a long pause, Mr.Joshua who looked as if he was thinking about something said something that shocked both his wife and his son alike.
"Alright, if that's what you want, Go ahead with it."
Sylvester's eyes slightly widened at what his father just uttered. He thought it would take longer to persuade his dad to accept his decision, but it seemed his father was being understanding.
Although Sylvester was pleased to hear his father's words, he still couldn't shake off the feeling that it was quite unusual of his father to agree and that too so quickly.
Mrs.Rose was about to say something when her husband stopped her. she clearly looked displeased by her husband's decision.
"Don't worry Rose, Sylvester is still in his prime, let him do what he wants to do for now."Mr. Joshua tried to let his wife understand.
Mrs.Rose could only sigh in agreement. she loved her son and didn't want to look like an imperious mother.
Sylvester informed his parents that he would be starting work tomorrow and left the room to go to his room.
After Sylvester left, Mrs. Rose spoke to her husband.
"Why would you agree to him working for some cafe man in the town, what would people think?!"
"You really didn't think I'll have my only son work in some Cafe, did you?"Mr.Joshua retorted holding a grim expression on his face.
"Then why did you agree to his decision?"Mrs. Rose questioned her husband looking flustered.
"There's really no use arguing with Sylvester about something he has already planned to do, you know how he is," he answered.
"Since you're not stopping him, what do you plan to do?"
"Don't worry, leave that to me, I'll handle that," he said to his wife and she nodded.
