As the crazed master was waiting to turn Race into his new lab rat, the person in question was enjoying his combat training in the minotaur's VR.
Race was currently facing of against four enemy Mark 9s as he ducked and weaved around them. He was always able to make sure that at least two of the enemy mechs were blocking the view of the other two mechs.
Race never allowed his mech to remain in a single spot for more than a second. His mech was always on the move. He was able to have enough control over his mech to utilize a lot of the skills that he knew. Race was slowly transforming into a state were he was able to become one with the mech.
Magnus had gone past the stage of surprise from watching the ridiculous improvement to enjoying the performance that Race was currently showing. Each of Race's steps were measured and his swings always had more than one purpose. Sometimes it forced his opponent to block in a way that obstructed his teammate, or sometimes he left himself open to an enemy, whose strike will somehow land on his team mate that happened to be there at the last possible second.
It was as if Race was playing chess, But his immense combat experience from his last life made it seem like a match between a bunch of five year olds and a grandmaster.
Race then decided to end the battle as he believed that he had gained full control over the mech rendering any correcting device useless. He took a step forward blocking a full powered strike from the mech on his right, used the momentum from the recoil to strike the mech on the left with a horizontal swing, which cleanly sliced through the second mech. He kept the momentum of the spin as he took a step forward dodging an overhead strike from the first mech. He used the remaining momentum to strike the third mech sending it flying tens of meters away. He then sidestepped the last mech who had charged at him in a way that this mech served as an obstacle to the first mech.
Race did not allow the fourth mech to regain balance as he stabbed it through a thinner area of armor, his sword piercing through were the cockpit was supposed to be. He then kicked the now limp mech towards the first mech, offsetting its balance. Race gave the flailing mech a kick causing it to topple over. He easily dispatched the fallen mech.
By now, the third mech which had been knocked away was charging at him at full speed. Race held his sword in a defensive position as he waited for the charging mech. He sidestepped the full power horizontal swing of the charging mech but still let his sword come in contact with the enemy's weapon.
Shifting his entire weight to the foot farther from the enemy mech, Race utilized the momentum of his enemy to deliver an even faster counter attack. He spun using his opponent's force and struck at his opponents back with a force that the mark 9 mech could never produce.
The battle was over in a matter of seconds. Race's mech stood in the middle of the smoking remains of his enemies, with steam rising from the joints of his mech as he had pushed it beyond its capabilities. The sight was one to behold.
And like anyone Magnus was to mesmerized by Race's feat that he stood there stunned. It would have taken him a long time to snap out of it if Race hadn't called out to him.
" Brother Magnus, Wasn't it cool?" Race asked the bewildered Magnus,Race had a cocky smile on his face, But Magnus would never know as he was in the mech.
" Yeah...cough...cough... it was cool", Magnus tried to play it cool but he was unable to deny that it was cool.
As if to safe him from this awkward situation the communicator on Magnus's wrist started to beep.
" Looks like we reached the Rendezvous. So log out of VR and follow me to command deck." Magnus said.
" Ok ".
....
At the command deck Race was staring at an asteroid field through the large windows.
" All I see are space rocks. The radars show no ships. Are you sure this is the place", Race complained as he started to doubt whether the coordinates were accurate.
" Nope, we are at the right place." Magnus assured Race.
" Really, all I see are asteroids." Race started to think that his senior was joking with him.
" You are so close to the correct answer", saying so Magnus ordered the AI to fly to an asteroid that was larger than a continent.
" You gotta be kidding me", Race was stunned as he was able to guess where the elite squad was.
