Downstairs, as soon as Tory hit the ground floor, one of the security personnel approached her. ‘Hi, Tory! Would you mind if we talked?’

She gasped when she recognized who it was. ‘Drew?’

‘I was there when you told everyone what happened to Max,’ Andrew Morgan whispered as he looked around to see if anyone was paying attention to them.

‘Why should I talk to you? You've ignored me all these years. What is the urgency now?’

‘I didn’t know Max was our Avery. Please, can we talk somewhere private?’

Tory looked at him with anger in her eyes. For the betrayal and the abandonment, but then she remembered that Max had easily forgiven her, so why shouldn’t she forgive him?

‘Fine. Let’s have lunch. I’ve been waiting 20 years to hear what you have to say.’

‘There’s an outdoor cafe one building over. Would it be okay if we walked there?’

‘Okay, lead the way.’
