The War Begins

As the sun came out, the soldiers in the Ronze army started to leave for the borders of the demon kingdom.

Marching through the wastelands, Zen was leading the army. On his right was Alicia the SSS class adventurer and on his left was Rolls, the first division captain. Those three were on the very front riding on their horse.

Behind them were Mary and some of the best soldiers. After that were other captains leading their division.

Tension and stress could be seen clearly on Zen's face, yet he was moving forward while fighting his fear.

"We are very close," said Rolls as he looked through the map he held in his hands.

"Be prepared! We are about to enter the demon kingdom!" Zen announced, as loud as he could.

He was moving forward on his horse while droplets of sweat appeared on his forehead.

"Wait!" said Rolls, stopping Zen and everyone else in the first line. When the first line stopped, all the soldiers behind also stopped with them.

"What's the matter Rolls?" Zen asked.

"Something's weird…The terrain is not like it should be."

"What does that mean?" Zen tried to confirm his doubt.

"I don't know for sure but something's definitely going on, and it's not something good for sure," said Rolls, as he stared at the landscape in front of them.

"You noticed well soldier. I have to admit, you're senses are quite sharp," someone said. It was the voice of a man but it was not someone from their army.

That voice came from forward.

Everyone in the first and second line started looking here and there to find who said that.

"What was that?" Zen said.

The soldiers asked each other and confirmed that the one who said that was not from their side.

"Your majesty," Rolls said hurriedly as he quickly pointed towards something in front of them.

As Zen looked where he was pointing, he saw distortion in space. The light was getting refracted and something almost transparent was there.

Suddenly the transparency vanished and a whole army appeared at a distance. It was the demon army with three generals, Beelzebub, Mammon, and Asmodeus.

The voice they heard was of Beelzebub, there was a large distance between them but Beelzebub was using magic to make his voice reach their ears.

"Wha...What's that!" said Rolls, terrified by the scene in front of him.

Zen's jaw dropped from fear, his face become pale as cold sweat wet his back.

'Calm down, calm down, calm down, I can't freeze right now!' he thought and calmed himself.

"You can't come walking in other's territory like this. Surrender or we'll kill you all," said Beelzebub.

"How can we hear his voice from this distance?" asked Mary, she was right behind Zen.

"He is using magic, it's not that complicated," said Zen.

"Is there anyone who can use the same type of spell?" Zen asked the mages in the second line. They all were top-class mages, skilled enough to be in the second line.

A young boy among them raised his hand.

"Cast that on me, I want to talk to them," as Zen said that, the boy chanted an incantation and cast a spell on him.

After the spell was cast, Zen faced the demon army. They were at a distance but he was able to see the generals. He took a deep breath and gathered all of his courage.

"We haven't crossed the borders yet, technically we are not inside the demon kingdom yet," said Zen. Due to the magic spell, his voice reached Beelzebub.

A smirk appeared on Beelzebub's face.

"Are you sure about that," he said as he looked at Asmodeus.

Asmodeus broke a magic circle that was around her wrist like a bracelet. As the magic circle broke, the landscape around them changed in the blink of an eye.

Haruto's eyes widened when he saw the new landscape. He looked at Rolls for confirmation only to see him nodding in fear.

The landscape was completely different from what it should be. The Ronze army was standing already two miles past the border.

"Shit! Curse those demons" Rolls said as he gritted his teeth.

"You all have crossed the borders of our kingdom without permission, you know what that means right? It gives us full rights to kill you right here and now," said Beelzebub.

Zen was looking and scanning the demon army trying to make a strategy to successfully get out of this situation. Previously their strategy depended on the fact that they will make the first move and it will be a surprise attack, but now the situation was completely changed.

The demon army was right in front of them and they were now at a disadvantage.

'From here it looks like they have a minimum of 50000 troops but that's not the problem. I need to confirm if the demon lord is here or not,' Zen thought.

"I am Zen Ronze, the new king of the Ronze kingdom. Are you the demon lord?" he asked.

"Me? No, no, I am not the demon lord. I am Beelzebub, a military general."

"Then who is the demon lord, I wish to see them."

"Our Lord isn't here; she doesn't have time to waste on people like you."

'Great, if the demon lord is not here then our chances to win are not zero. There may be less number of soldiers on their side but the legends say that one demon soldier is equal to two human soldiers, I have to quickly find a way to win or we'll be doomed,' Zen was thinking of every possible way he could use to win.

It is said that one demon soldier is equal to two human soldiers because the body of demons is more capable and efficient to use magic. Every single demon can use low-level magic with a small amount of training.

It is due to this fact that the swordsmen in the demon army can also use magic even when fighting with a sword.

"So what is your decision? You will surrender or get killed?" Beelzebub asked.

"Neither of them, we are here to fight! A demon from your side killed the king of our country; we are here to avenge our king. Ready yourself, you are the ones who are going to die," said Zen, in a confident tone.

"Fight huh, well….that means you've chosen the latter. Okay, if you're that desperate to die then we'll play along," Beelzebub said as he raised his sword.

On the other side, Alicia and Rolls also pulled out their sword from its sheath and settles themselves to attack. Zen said the mage to break the spell and he also held his sword to attack.

Both sides were ready to move, and the first line of the Ronze army started moving forward followed by the rest of the army behind them. The generals and the demon army also started moving forward at great speed.

"Stop at your place! Take one another step and both of the armies will be annihilated!" someone shouted, it was a male's voice. The voice was loud enough that each soldier from both armies was able to listen.

Both the armies stopped and started looking for the person who spoke just now.

Soon Zen found him. That person was up in the sky.

He was wearing a dark-blue-colored cloak and had bat-like wings on his back. His face was hidden behind a wooden mask that covered his whole face.

That person closed his wings and landed right in between both of the armies.

"Sorry, but no war is happening today," he said.
