Kara felt a warm body beside her and opened her eyes. Griffin. Last she remembered, she had slumped to the floor. Looking around, she realised she was in her room and it had turned to a freezer. She didn't feel cold but it was like snow had fallen or a heavy blizzard had hit the room.
Griffin nudged her and helped her up. Unconsciously, her hand went to her hair and fell when she felt her beanie. She stood up and walked to the window, the snow had begun to melt. There was no trace of water left. Her window faces the woods but it wasn't as intimidating as she had thought when she'd first arrived.
Kara turned her head when her door came open.
"You are awake. Good. Come on, you must be starving." Liv said with a smile.
Kara nodded and walked towards her. In a comfortable silence, they walked to a dining hall. It was massive but then again, wasn't this a school?
"I'm guessing this is a school for non-humans." Kara stated as she sat by the table. Principal Hartridge nodded at her and Dimitri grinned.
"Yes. School resumes next week, so you'll have to get familiar with everything before then." Liv replied.
Dimitri Collars had shown up when she was sixteen. He trained her to fight. At first she thought it was just for self defense but he'd taught her the offensive side also. He had taught her to use any weapon she could get her hands on, even a pencil. Miss Humphrey hadn't batted an eye at him, in fact she'd loved having him around. When he stopped showing up, she simply forgot him. It was liked he never existed, only Kara remembered.
"What happened to the orphanage?" She asked suddenly and looked to principal Hartridge.
He smiled. "Everyone is alright. They don't remember that you existed."
"You wiped their memories of me." For some reason, she felt hurt at the thought. No one remembered her. Not even May.
"It was the only way to keep them alive"
Nodding she resumed eating. Dimitri and Liv talked while principal Hartridge read the newspaper. Everything felt normal, but it wasn't. She just met this people for crying out loud, okay she knew Dimitri but she hadn't exactly known him.
"So what are you people? I'm a sister's daughter and a wolf but what are you guys?" She asked looking to each of them.
Liv answered. "Dad and I are mind weavers and Dimitri is a wolf. He comes from your pack. Your father's younger half brother." She said a little too excited.
"You have a brother. Different mothers ofcourse but a brother nonetheless. His name is Klaus. He knows of you and longs to meet you." Dimitri told her with a smile. He reached out and held her hand.
Kara cocked her head. "And my father, does he want to meet me?"
Dimitri smiled sadly. "He wants to but he cannot meet you yet."
"And mother?" She stared intently at him, taking note of his reaction.
The table became tense and Dimitri shifted in his seat uncomfortably.
"She vanished after your birth. " Hartridge answered.
Kara nodded and stared at her food. Just her luck. First she didn't have a family, now she has one but she can't be with them.
"You'll have to be prepared. You'll be introduced as a cousin of mine from the pack to the school. Keep a low profile, let no one see your powers. If they ask about your hair, say you dyed it. If they ask where you've been, say you were with the humans. We will continue training but you'll still go for classes." Dimitri dictated.
"Not like I have a choice." She mumbled. Then her head snapped up. "Powers. What powers?"
"I'm sure you've noticed that you freeze things." Hartridge said, placing his newspaper on the table.
Kara nodded.
"Well, if you look closely at the frozen things, you'll see they aren't exactly fully frozen. There is something electrifying about them. It's like you can electrocute someone and freeze the person at the same time. Very deadly."
"That's the consequence isn't it. I'm someone to be feared." Her lips trembled and she looked away.
"We'll help you control it. Everything will get easier as you get used to things."
Later on, Liv showed her every nuke and cranny of the school. Her room was opposite Kara's, something she hadn't noticed.
"So I'm just going to live like a normal student?" Kara asked as they sat at a fountain.
Liv nodded. "For now, yes."
"The students, how many?"
"About 40. Oakley is just for those who don't want to stay in their own realm. It's like an average human school, you know the kind in novels. There are the powerful popular ones, the dangerous one, the quiet ones, the outcasts and so on." The girl explained.
"Where do you fall?"
"Outcast. People don't exactly like me cause I'm the principal's daughter." Liv smiled sheepishly, her cheeks turning a full red tomato.
Kara held her hand. Never had she wanted a friend but now, now she wanted to be friends with Liv. "Well so far, I like you. Tell me those I should watch out for."
Liv scrunched her nose and sighed. "There are a set of boys that are somewhat of a menace. Powerful, dangerous and popular. First is Ezra knight... he is a shadow. Cocky, you know typical bad boy. Then the Winterly twins, Ashton and Houston. Ash is nice and quiet but Houston is the total opposite, they are elementals. Water and fire respectively. Last is Adrian Frost, he is a mind weaver just like us. Only, father says he is probably the most powerful in a 100 years. He is the mystery boy."
Kara smiled. Typical high school. "What about the girls?"
"Well there is your cousin Mara Cahill. She's the diva. An absolute snob, she doesn't talk to anyone besides those in her clique, looks down on people. The usual. But that's all really. Oh and your brother Klaus, he doesn't get along with her."
Kara's held her breath unconsciously. Her brother... she was going to meet her brother. Okay step brother but still family.
"When do they arrive?" She tried not to let her emotions show. She was both excited and worried. Miss Humphrey had homeschooled her all her life but now... now she was going to a school and interacting with people. Even though the situation wasn't exactly the best but still, it was something.
"In a week."
