Disguise

I dared not to go back downstairs after the gaze Jonas was hurling at me. I felt naked in front of him so why would I be there.

I decided to tidy up Trevor's closet as it was a little bit messed up. Maybe he was hurrying and forgot to take his shoes back. I opened his master close which was occupied by Italian handmade suits, his pajamas, tuxedo shoes, and casual sneakers. I put everything back in position and I was about to close when a medium-sized box caught my attention.

I didn't want to invade his privacy but curiosity was eating me up. I slowly moved my trembling hands with my eyes closed until I felt the hard box and opened it.

Slowly opening one eye to peek inside, a bundle of pictures welcomed me. They were placed inside the box carefully like a treasure to last forever. I sat on the white fluffy rug that rested on the marble floor peacefully.

My eyes became heavy and my heart throbbed faster as I looked through the pictures. They were pictures of good times, a powerful couple, and happy people. They belonged to Trevor and Carol.

The beautiful and happy memories they had on different trips, in the bathroom, kitchen, in the garden were all safely kept by him.

I was jealous at this moment and my heart was getting fat inside my chest. No, I couldn't stop wondering why I was jealous over this. The pictures were kept and not displayed so I saw no reason for my burning jealousy and composed myself again.

I placed the box back in its original position carefully. I didn't want to talk about it or even think that I saw them. It was all normal to keep the happy memories. Even if they weren't in a safe box they could be in his memory which couldn't be deleted.

The best way to not push me was to keep quiet and not ask him about irrelevant things later. After all, it was me who invaded his privacy.

I ambled downstairs after hours of disappearing. Jonas might have left. I thought to myself as I looked down but none of the guys was in the living room.

"Trev" I called three times but his response wasn't heard. I thought that maybe he had left with Jonas and breathed a sigh of relief.

I threw myself on the couch and switched on the TV. My first sight fell on my image.

I turned up the volume to listen audibly.

"Recently, the CEO of miles corporation who rarely shows his face to the media came out and revealed that he had broken up with his long time girlfriend, the mighty Carol." the news anchor paused her words and pages of pictures that I saw earlier popped on the TV screen. Carol and Trevor were being shown in their happy moments.

"A few weeks ago, the CEO of miles corporation, Mr. Trevor Martins, proposed for marriage to one of his company's employees during James Witton's fashion show. We all thought that he was loyal to the mighty Carol but it turned out to be the opposite. He cheated on his loyal woman without minding how she felt in the process." the news anchor made it seem real. I looked at the screen in disbelief as my pictures popped on one after another.

I was worried at the moment and my knees weakened as my legs shook endlessly.

The news anchor continued..." Trevor Martins didn't waste a minute pushing the mighty Carol away in the face of the reporters from different media houses. It was a moment of embarrassment and humiliation for the mighty Carol and that made her flinch no matter how much she knew a woman was taking his man away." At her senseless words, I turned off the TV. I didn't know when all this started.

I grabbed my phone from my pajama pockets and dialed Trevor's number which was busy at the moment. This wasn't good at all.

The news was circulating as fast as the lightning. This was not what I liked.

I paced back and forth trying to reach Trevor but all was in vain.

"What is all this?" I asked myself a question that nobody could reply to. Not even myself.

I rushed to the garden and there wasn't any sign of Trevor or Jonas. Did he even know what was outside already?

I was about to walk back inside when a strong hand caught my elbow. I turned around and saw Jonas but he seemed to be in panic and worry.

"Come with me, Linda. It's not safe here." He said, concerned.

"What? Where is Trevor? I can't just go now." I protested trying to take my elbow from his hand.

After succeeding in escaping his strong grip, I ran back to Trevor's apartment and tried calling him again. Still, there wasn't any response.

"Stop calling because it's of no use. Since you refuse to come with me then you can't step outside until then." Jonas's manly but calm voice rang behind me.

His physique matched his sharp but warm manly voice.

"What happened? Did he see the news?" I asked, my eyes begging for answers. Worry was evident in my eyes.

"Yes, he did. But Carol suddenly called him and... and.." he stammered hesitantly.

Jonas trailed until he was a few inches in front of me. Without any notice, he pulled in into his embrace patting my back lightly and encouragingly. I was dumbstruck and everything on me stayed still.

"Whatever happens from today Linda, please be strong and know that everything has its reason. Be a strong woman Linda Williams." Judging from his voice, his words seemed like a clear warning.

I placed my feet in a basin of warm water. It was my old method of calming my worry down. I wondered why Trevor ran so fast without even talking to me once if he had seen the news.

Earlier when I saw Jonas rushing in through the iron gate, I thought they had gone out for a jog and Trevor was behind but to my surprise, he had rushed out because Carol called, hoping for me to understand.

I tried to make my brain turn and think about it as nothing but I couldn't.

Jonas watched me silently as he sat across me. His eyes didn't leave me for a minute though I didn't give it a thought this time.

******Trevor drove through the empty road which was surrounded by tall and thin trees. He drove faster than his usual speed. His Rolls Royce pulled up in front of a fancy mansion just a few miles after the city.

He hurriedly got out of the car and used his fingerprint to enter through the tall iron gate. His footsteps were fast and his breathing was faster.

The maids in the mansion greeted him but he didn't respond as his entire focus was on the lounge inside.

His feet halted only when he saw a delicate woman sitting down unworried. She held a glass of champagne with her right hand while her other hand lay on her thighs delicately.

"Why?" Trevor immediately asked as soon as he stood in front of him.

"Because I love you Trev," Carol uttered while placing the glass down on the glass table.

Her eyes were bright and carried a sense of satisfaction. She did this and she was comfortable that Trevor would come running to her.

She called the famous and outstanding media houses in the city and provided them with the information she wanted to be passed to the world.

Linda had tasted her and it was time to feed her with all the pain that existed. She had spent years with Trevor and even though their breakup loitered at her mistakes, she still knew that her place in his heart wasn't just flour scattered on the table that could vanish with one breath but rather a rock that required efforts and time to be slightly pushed.

"Love? You got the guts to mention love in front of me, Carol." Trevor coldly uttered but Carol expected that and had plans to flow with his attitude.

"I'm sorry for the past but we had a lot Trev, we can't just let go of it like that, you know?" Carol tried sounding helpless and hopeless at the same time. She moved her hands to hold his arm like in the past but he moved his arm away quickly and stood at a distance from her deeds.

When she noticed that the ice in his hey wouldn't melt yet, she decided to create something that would attract attention. She held her stomach tightly and groaned in pain before sitting on the floor whimpering.

"Are you okay?" Trevor asked while squatting down. He knew about her stomach problems for many years and he understood clearly that they came without warning. Just like now.
