Not A True Ally: Part II

Chapter 003:

You have been healed.

Without being able to fully comprehend my surroundings, the snakes started to besiege. There was nothing but blackness. I couldn't even see my limps.

"sss.. [food, there is food at nest]"

The hissing from all the directions caused my head to throb. My human self could hear the hiss, while my Skill: Linguist translated the monster tongues. It's like could hear double and comprehend double of a normal person. Unlike how the human mind can distinguish the background noise of the one close by, Linguist translates any audible sound to me.

You have been protected by a Mana shield.

The shield will block 5000 DMG for you.

I didn't notice the coming attacks, but the notifications indicated so.

Mana shield has blocked an attack for you.

231/5000 DMG has been blocked.

Mana shield has blocked an attack for you.

476/5000 DMG has been blocked.

Finally, I was able to witness my dire situation. I was laying on the top of the fallen ground, sharp edges jabbing my backs and thighs. And hovering on top of my body was the cave snakes, savagely trying to bite me but were blocked by the invisible shield. I didn't know whether to thank Kannika for allowing me to see my death, or to curse her for sending over a new firefly.

An arrow flew by, hitting one of the snakes nearby my feet. Then a rain of arrows, fireballs, and mana blasts, all aimings at the surrounding snakes. But not the targeting ones that were closest to me. I guessed if any of these attacks hit me, we will be in big trouble, especially when each of these Skills deals at least 500 DMG—that was what's reported on the global database. I didn't have the skill to see the damage, some lucky hunters did. The Skill: Keen Eyes, allows hunters to see Demange deal from both themselves and their attacker. Those with high proficiency in this Skill were able to view the monsters and other players' status windows.

"Do something Arshey!" yelled someone.

No shit Sherlock! I knew I had to do something but my body couldn't move. I was petrified. Everything was so surreal, the snakes are attacking me, yet I received no damage. In a way, the mana shield was like a false sense of security.

I got to move, the second that the shield was used up, I am dead meat.

Mana shield has blocked an attack for you.

"Sss..., sss... [shield so human no demange]"

705/7000 DMG has been blocked.

"Get you shit together Arshey! Move to the side, we can't get a good aim!" said Jingmin.

It was unfortunate that none of the members here has Levitation. A Skill allowed either the caster or the object chosen by the caster to levitate.

There was a series of cursing, of how useless I was being. I didn't know how I would even hear the hunters on top with all the hissing. But everyone was screaming at once, except for the range hunters who kept assisting me and the Magicians who kept refilling my shield. Each was telling me what to do, where to attack first. I wonder what Travis was doing.

As soon as my thought wandered to Travis, something clicked inside me. An urge for vengeance. The rupture of anger and hatred. And the thought of… wanting that bastard dead. I had to kill him, I had to kill him with my own hands. I want my dagger piercing his heart and I want to watch as light vanishes from his pupils. I can't die before killing that piece of shit. This thought, the hunger for blood, was a familiar feeling. Whenever I stepped into a dungeon a sudden bloodlust rushes through me that I had to close my eyes to cool down. I had to embrace the sense of solitude from the blackened vision, to remind myself that my thirst for blood isn't supposed to be from my allies but the monsters. It scared me that my thought resonated with the dungeons.

"Rips all the humans apart…"

"Humans are the cruelest of all beings."

I know, I know I shouldn't think of murder. I sounded like a psychopath, but the thought. The thought of Travis's warm blood touches my fingers, the shock in his eyes. The horror he would've felt when I stab it. As sick as it is, these thoughts thrilled me… I want to kill him. It took everything within me to reply yes to the voices of the dungeon.

With that, I tried to move my limps…

Mana shield has been upgraded.

The shield will block 1000 additional DMG for you.

Mana shield has blocked an attack for you.

6251/8000 DMG has been blocked.

6489/8000 DMG has been blocked.

I finally found my balance, in addition to my bloodlust, the increasing number was a great motivation to get me off my ass.

"90% of the shield is used up," I yelled.

Stealth Basic F has been.

Your body temperature is hidden for the next 30 seconds. Your presence is slightly hidden within this duration.

Cave snakes were able to see in the dark through infrared, this F-grade might actually be useful.

Assassin Sprint B+ has been activated.

Your speed has increased by 150%.

You do not meet the requirement to use the full extent of your skill.

You have been betrayed. You can use 70% of your skills.

Your speed has increased by 105% for the next 30 seconds.

"Sss... [human up]"

I slashed the snake in front of my face. I watched as the snake collided with my attack and got pushed back slightly.

70 percent of your damage prowess is being applied.

For the first time in my many raids, I smiled. There was a zero after my seven, this was what 70% of my actual power felt like.

I let out a little laugh.

"I think she lost her mind."

Whoever said that you were probably right. A dealer who could only use 7% of her ATK, that was who I am. This was the first time, besides my test raid for the guild, that I dealt above 14%.

You have been buffed for the next 5 minutes. All skills have increased by 100%

Your speed has increased by 210% for the remaining time.

2 Karma has been added. You do not meet the requirement to accept Karma.

With your skill, Empathy for the Dead, all XP can't be added.

You have been betrayed, 175 XP is added to your advancement.

So this was what it was like to be like any other hunter. 140% damage?! The buff finally managed to exceed my actual strength?

210% speed, how fast can I go?

I flashed to the side of the pit, cornering myself. This allowed the range hunters to fire where I fall without hurting me in the process.

But I couldn't care less about the attack…

I…I was… fast. 210% I have never seen such a large number. I knew that to other hunters, over 100% was easily achieved, they only required a Hunter with some form of buff Skills.

Kanika had the godly Skill: Combat Blessing A++— with a buffing effect that can be used on oneself and allies as well as debuffing on your enemies. The System would classify a Skill as X-, Xo, or X+, but Combat Blessing is one of its kind. There is no duplicate of this exact one in the world. Based on Kanika's dad and testimonials of other hunters with X++ Skills, these X++ Skills are listed as "The Omnipotent Power of the Ulmightly's Twelve Apostles." The current X++ Skills were all found within an S rank dungeon. Eight S rank dungeons and eight X++ Skills were found.

Being a godly Skill didn't necessarily mean there isn't a similar skill. A more basic form of Combat Blessing are Buff Ao, which only has the buff but not debuff effect, and Debuff A-, which reduces the stat of the enemy.

A few of the snakes came into my corner of the pit. I slashed them savagely, savoring this strength.

I couldn't tell how many times I have been wounded then healed. I was so focused on the 140% that I barely registered my pain. By the time I came to my senses, I was standing alone in the corner. Four corpses in front of me while my whole body numbs and fingers tremble. The snakes no longer took note of me, maybe it was Stealth, their attention was toward the impending threats from the hunters on the top. I was the last threatening one even with 70% of my power.

Some snakes slithered through the holes on the walls, their underground pathways either for escaping. Or maybe a pathway to reach the hunters who currently are peering down into the pit. Those that were still at the bottom are baring their fangs upward in anger.

"Half Dealers jumped down," commanded Jingmin.

I wasn't mad that he didn't give this command earlier. It wasn't safe. One dead hunter was better than all members of the attack force injured, especially since we were only around a fifth of the way through the dungeon. And especially since that dead hunter was the lowest rank in the party.

It was kind of funny how the situation got reversed. Now the snakes were in my position, massacred at an extremely great pace. So I rejoined the batter.

We killed all the snakes, except for those that might escape through the holes. That couldn't be helped, it was not worth the manpower to chase. These tunnels that the snakes when through are around two meters in diameter, big enough for only a few hunters with a smaller frame. Trying to collapse them wasn't an option either, one small mistake the roof or the ground might give in.

Everyone drew in rag breathes.

"We killed nearly over a hundred snakes, that's not bad," said Raymin, one of the combat Magicians. The one firing fireballs on top of my head, thank god my hair didn't catch fire.

"Yeah, we were at the same place so it was easier to aim," added C-rank Magician.

"She nearly died!"

Raymin and I flinched, and the atmosphere became extremely uncomfortable. The rest of the members couldn't look me straight in the face. Dac Kien always kept his composure. He was always ready to assist, just now; he was the first to react. He had healed me right after my fall and now got upset on my behalf. I was nothing but a stranger to him, during these three years in the guild, this was our third encounter.

Unlike other high rankers, Dac Kien always volunteered to help in lower-rank dungeons, as new members weren't skilled and often had a high casualty. I met him once in an E-rank, then another in a D-rank raid. Just like this one, he had helped me a get deal, healing me without a complaint.

Raymin mouthed an apology. I looked up and gave him a smile, to signal that everything was cool. But my face probably contorted because he looked to be even more ashamed of himself.

"Let's move and get out of this pit first. A short break then continued," Jingmin suggested.

Some of the hunters with a great physique managed to run up the wall of the pit. Like the running in sideways around the circumference one. It looked cool, considering that we are around 30 meters in depth.

And the rest of us, by that I meant I and the C-rank Magician, was waiting for others to drop a rope.

"You did great, fighting by yourself." After saying that, Jingmin patted my head. I guess he realized it, soon after he switched to giving my shoulder three-light pats.

Jingmin then coughed and whispered sorry. Low enough only the three of us at the bottom can hear.

What were you sorry for? Touching my head? Letting me fight alone? Or for not being able to bring me justice? You were not blind, so does everyone. At the very least, there would be a person among the 25 people who noticed Travis pulling down the pit to save his own ass. Yet no one mentioned what Travis did.

Were you all staying in silence as a form of an alliance, would a census silence ease your guilty conscience?

I know I shouldn't be upset, we were technically lone wolves in the Mercenary Guild. I didn't expect anyone to risk their lives to save mine, but I had trusted that they got my back.

"Kill them Arshey!"

"They are blackened beings. Kill them. Kill them."

I know I shouldn't listen. But after what had happened I am tempted.

God, I'm sick.
