Prologue

"1, 2, 3..."

20 logs I've got to sell. that means I'll get 40 cents. I guess that's enough for us to buy food for a week.

I was walking on my way home when I heard a loud crash coming from our neighbors. I was too stunned to speak because of the people in front of me.

A man was lying down with a sword stabbed right into his chest. People screaming and shouting at the armoured people who came from nowhere. A person was fighting an armoured man. Babies crying while being protected by their parents. Blood scattered everywhere from the tip of the swords to the the ground.

What's happening? it's in chaos!

Suddenly, I felt my ears are ringing, the world went quiet and slowly turned black.

"Lady Astrid!"

I quickly turned my head and closed the academic book I was reading. This is it! My father will pick a knight for me! I told my personal maid to call me when dad will decide to pick a knight.

This is so exciting because I'm going to have another friend beside the maids here! As I was heading to father, I can't help but think about how I won't be lonely again.

Ever since I was born, I don't know what the outside world is. I refused to read novels but read academics instead to reach my father's expectations.

I was really curious about the place where my grandfather rules and how the place looked. I never got the chance to step outside of this palace for some unknown reasons. We don't go to shops because the owner itself comes here.

Maybe if I have a knight that can protect me, will I be able to go and see the outside world?

I stopped when I faced two doors. Father is in the other side of this door and is preparing to choose a knight for me.

The other side of this door is a balcony facing thousands of people and I will enter as soon as my name is announced.

I could hear grandfather's people screams and cheering. My heart was pounding as my maid gave me a bright smile.

"First born daughter, Lady Astrid Zaphirrus!"

The doors open wide as I took a step when my name was announced. Everyone was clapping and cheering. I can't help but smile and waved too.

"This is the most awaited day for my daughter to choose a knight that will protect her at all cost." Father started and everyone settled down and listened. "Earlier this morning, I have seen you fight and how good all of you in handling swords and close combat."

My heart was beating so fast because of excitement and the cheering of the people. Who could it be?

"For today, I will only choose the right man who can protect my daughter, Kaidevi Archer."

In a moment, father held my hand and we stepped aside. The door opened and a mysterious person stepped in with this immense aura. He had his hood on and was wearing an all black clothing. The surroundings went silent when he first took his step until he was in front of everyone.

he took his hood off and people began shouting.

A kid?
