Chapter 3: The Goblin

The creature in front of Blane looked like a goblin. It was smaller than he was around the size of an eight-year-old, however, it was definitely not a human. Green skin covered its almost fully visible body save for a loincloth. Pointed green ears stuck out from its head, and glowing yellow eyes glared at Blane.

"Grahhhhhh" The goblin screeched raising up a large club.

"Scan it quick," Blane told X.

"What does life status mean," Blane said as the goblin began to take a step towards him.

========================================================================

{Definition} [Life Status]

[Life status is like the HP bar in a video game, it shows the life force of a sentient creature in a numerical value. Life Status will not show what is affecting the life force, and a creature may act as the same even at a low value, however, if the life status reaches 0 the creature will die.]

[You can display life status over all creatures while in combat.]

Suddenly the goblin stopped advancing towards Blane and fell. Looking at its back Blane could see two arrows sticking out.

"Display Life Status," Blane said. Immediately above the goblins head, a bar appeared.

Blane walked up to it slowly, when it didn't move or try to attack him Blane kicked at his club watching it roll away. Keeping his eye on the goblin Blane walked backwards until he reached the club. He crouched down, still looking for any sign of movement and picked it up. Now armed, he felt safer and walked straight up to the creature. Slowly he reached out to the end of the club and poked it. Nothing happened. Blane didn't know what to do with the goblin, but one thing was for sure, it was dead.

"Well," said Blane "Now I need to make certain whatever got that thing won't get me"

"The best thing to do would be to move away from this location" X chimed in helpfully "If it was hunted then most likely whatever killed it will be here soon"

Blane thought that this was an excellent idea and decided to go in the direction away from where the goblin came from. He didn't need to stay in this area anymore now that the pod was gone. As Bane walked through the forest he thought about the goblin and the arrows that had killed it, he then looked at the club. This didn't do much for the goblin he thought, I'm going to need a better weapon.

The forest started to thin out as Blane walked farther, the thick old trees giving way to newer ones, the mostly bare forest floor now full of small bushes grass and flowers. Up ahead the trees broke off into what looked like a grassy area, with a slow rise up a hill. Getting closer he could see the forest behind him had to be quite large as it spaned as far as his vision could see. Ahead of him, he could see rolling grassy hills growing larger towards his left side and, in the distance, turning into mountains. In front of him, the grassy area seemed to go on forever and to his right as well. But to his right, he saw something that made him stop dead in his tracks, going into the forest behind him was a man-made trail. And on that trail was a giant wolf.

The wolf saw him, about the same time he saw it. Locking eyes Blane tried to remember what to do when facing a wolf. The wolves he had learned to defend himself against were normal-sized ones that lived in the woods near his grandparent's cottage on earth. This wolf was not normal size. It towered two meters in the air with dark black fur, long claws, and at five meters long with an extra meter long tail Blane had no doubts he would lose in a fight. The distance between them was a fair amount, around 500 meters, but as Blane was thinking about whether to run or not the wolf made the first move. Seeing a giant wolf charging at him Blane dropped his club and ran, he didn't think he could outrun the wolf but he had seen a large hollow tree earlier on the outskirts of the forest. Bolting for the tree he looked behind him, only to wish he didn't the wolf was only 200 meters away and would be on him in a matter of seconds. Looking back he saw the tree and just as he was about to dive into it, BOOM. The wolf landed right in front of him having jumped that last 100 meters blocking his path to the tree.

"Hey, you weren't going to go into that maneater tree where you?" A voice called out.

Blane looked at the wolf. "Did you just talk?" He then saw movement on the wolf's back and a boy slid down the side.

"Why would Fang talk in our language?" The boy said. "You must be lost because everyone in the village knows Fang and Silver." As he said this a second wolf, slightly smaller than Fang and sliver in colour came trotting out of the path. Seeing Fang the wolf started to walk over but soon stopped, sniffing the ground silver suddenly growled and began to run towards them. Silver suddenly stopped her charge just a few feet away from Blane. Then an arrow thunked into the ground less than an inch away. Blane recognized this arrow as he had seen two more like it, in the now-dead goblin.

"The next one hits your head" A female voice was heard. "Now back away from my brother slowly."
