Alex struggled to open her eyes and when she finally forced them open, she found several pairs of eyes staring back down at her. She scanned the room. It took her a moment to realize her whereabouts - JoAnn's living room couch. She locked in on Peter's gaze and knew he'd made her angry, but for a brief moment, she couldn't remember why.
She shifted her gaze to her mom. "What happened? Why am I on the couch, and why is everyone staring at me?"
"You fainted, dear, and Peter carried you to the couch. Don't you remember?" her mom replied.
Alex remained silent for a moment as she moved to a seated position. Her cheeks heated as she recalled why she was angry with Peter. "I remember now. You!" she snapped as she sprang to her feet and pointed her finger in his face. "How could you not tell me he was out of jail?"
"Alex, Sunshine, just calm down, let me explain," Peter said, his tone near desperate.
