Chapter 36: Meeting The Neighbours III

'Would you like to stay for some tea and bread with honey? The honey is fresh from my own hives,' Amelia offered shyly to thank him for coming over to fix the gears that brought her well-bucket up and down.

'You are turning into quite the market gardener, what with your hives in full swing now.'

Anders' praise caused heat to rise to her cheeks, and she turned to hide it. 'If you just give me a moment to finish picking these berries, I will put the kettle on.'

He placed a gentle hand on her arm. 'If it were up to me, I would love to stay, but Father wants the hay brought in before the weather change.'

Anders reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, causing her to tense. She was happy to explore where her friendship with Anders might lead, but his touching her in this intimate way was a little too much too soon. She pulled back from his hand.
