Lulu hummed happily, she had several bags in her hands. She closed the door to her car and walked to the garden almost blindly.
She hummed louder and louder till she reached her destination, which was arguably her favourite place in the entire house.
She stopped in front of Benjamin's front door and knocked waiting for a reply but she received none.
She knocked once more, tapping her feet impatiently, these things were heavy and she wanted to put these bags down.
"Ben!" she shouted, she was sure that he was home, she checked his schedule, he had no duties today, so why then was he not answering.
Lulu groaned and angrily put down the bags she tried to open the door but it was locked.
"Maybe he really is out." she said to herself. She searched in her handbag and found a spare key, she unlocked the door and lo and behold was the person she had been looking for, his hair messy, rubbing his eyes and looking shocked.
"What in the world Louise? How did you unlock my door?" Benjamin asked in surprise, he was sure that he had locked his front door.
"Aha! So you are inside!" she exclaimed.
"Yes, I was." he replied.
"Then why didn't you answer me? Do you know how long I was standing out there?" she asked.
"Definitely not long enough if you didn't just give up and leave." he replied annoyed.
"Hmmph." he heard Lulu say.
"How did you get into my house? The door was locked." he said.
"I have a spare key." Lulu said dangling her secret weapon in front of him.
"And why exactly do you have a spare key to my house?" he asked not sounding pleased at all, he just felt somewhat unsafe now that he knew Lulu had a spare key. She could literally just come in here whenever she wanted. He certainly was not safe.
"I got it from the rack of spare keys in the garage, anyway, can you tell me why you didn't answer me even though I knocked countlessly and even shouted your name?" she asked.
"Firstly, you only knocked like three times, secondly, I was asleep and clearly I just woke up, and thirdly, I can't believe you seriously don't see anything wrong by having a spare key to my house without my permission?" he asked.
"Oh can you just stop being so serious Ben? Like gosh, it's not that deep, I only went looking for a spare key because I knew that one day you would pull something like this." she answered.
"Louise, I truly will never understand the way you see things." he sighed and shook his head. He had only just woken up and he already felt a headache starting.
"You don't need to, anyway, you owe me an apology for ignoring my calls deliberately." she concluded as she carried in her several bags.
Benjamin sighed and rubbed his temples, he should have known that it was too good to be true when he was able to enjoy an entire day without being bugged by her. No calls, no unexpected visits to his house. It was so peaceful over here that he almost felt eerie in his own home.
It was only way later before he realized that this was what he always wanted, peace and quiet and he would be a fool not to enjoy it while it lasted. So he ate dinner by himself for the first time in a long while. He watched his favourite shows without Lulu mumbling in his ears of how she didn't understand and how could she when she didn't start watching from the beginning??!
That was why he ended up sleeping late while doing all the things he had not done for such a long time.
The look of pure terror on his face when he heard her voice and how she was banging on his front door, he realized that he was not yet ready to go back to his reality of having to watch over his boss's younger sister.
Even though they were friends now, Lulu's definition of a friend was certainly weird. Maybe it was because they lived too close to one another, she was always here, always, and as much as he considered her a friend, he also needed some space.
"Hello, earth to Benjamin Maslow." she called waving her hand in front of his face snapping him out of his daze.
Benjamin sighed, sadly yes, he was back to his reality of having Lulu nag him every single moment of every single day.
"I'm not apologizing for you basically breaking into my home." he replied holding her hand.
"Wow, and to think that I came all the way here to gift you presents amongst some other things to thank you for being such a good personal assistant." she tisked.
"What things?" he asked finally taking note of the several shopping bags in his living room.
"Firstly, here's your pay for being my assistant." she said waving a wad of cash in front of him.
"I just got paid this morning and boy oh boy does money feel good to spend." she laughed.
"I can't accept that." she heard him say causing her to frown wondering if he had woke up forgetting that money was needed to live life well.
"And why not?" she asked.
"It just doesn't feel right, it's your money." he said.
"Correction, it's our money, you helped me out and there's no way I'm not going to allow you not let me pay you." she argued.
"I don't need the money Louise, keep it... it just doesn't feel right." Benjamin said looking away.
"Oh don't give me that 'it just doesn't feel right' nonsense, what you mean is that you don't like getting paid by a woman, and especially a woman like me." she concluded.
"Typical male chauvinistic behaviour." she scoffed.
"It's not like that at all Louise, it's just that you did all the work, the planning, the decorating, I really didn't do anything that's why I feel like it's wrong if I collect the money for basically doing nothing." he said.
"What do you mean you did nothing?" she exclaimed.
"When I lost the box of all the plans and decorations in the elevator, who took it upon himself to find every single one of my plans and designs and decorations and ordered them with excessive speed?" she asked.
"Who stayed by me and helped me decorate and clean up even after the party was over?" she asked.
"Who drove me home even though I didn't want him to?" she asked.
"It was all you, and if you don't see your own worth then I might as well give you a smack on the back of your head." she said.
"You were a great help, always have, always will, and here's your money for everything you've done. Now if you don't want me to get upset and insulted then you will take the money you earned fair and square." she said putting her foot down.
Benjamin looked at her, he could tell that she was really serious about this, he had no choice. He sighed and took the money.
"Fine, thank you." he said.
"You're welcome you big dummy." she replied smiling.
"Use the money to go buy yourself something nice, like suits that are another colour other than black. I recommend orange." she joked.
"Ha, ha, very funny, you would never catch me dead wearing such a bright colour." he said.
"Whatever, anyway, on to what else I brought. I got us some lunch, and I bought you some coffee, the good stuff, not that cheap stuff you buy all the time." she said
"I don't know whether to be offended that you think it's cheap or the fact that you ask me to make you that coffee all the time." he scoffed.
"I bought you a new salad dish, and some nice shirts, wonderful bright colours." she smiled.
"I don't know if I should be glad I have a rich friend or not." he said sarcastically.
"Correction my friend, I'm not rich, my family is rich." she replied.
"It's the same thing." he replied.
"No it's not. I don't own any houses, they own everything, they bought my car from me, my clothes." said Lulu as she unpacked.
"Basically all I have wasn't bought with my own money, that's the difference. I have a rich family. Besides, I used the money I got from planning the party to buy all this." she explained.
"I see, you really didn't have to explain all that to me." said Benjamin.
"Of course I did, after all I don't want you going around spreading the news that you have a rich friend." she joked and he smiled and shook his head.
"Come on, let's eat lunch and watch that terrible show of yours that you like watching so much." she laughed and heard him sigh followed by a shake of his head, she loved seeing him annoyed, it was fun to annoy him, it was cute.
