Some respite at last

Living with her grandmother was not easy, either. If anything, it was worse than living with her parents. The woman was in no way grandmotherly and kept the girl locked up and chained to a bedpost in her house. While the girl was there, she was fed twice a day, once in the mornings and once in the evenings. Each ration was barely enough to satisfy her hunger, not to talk of that of the baby growing inside her. Her parents visited her once a month, to shower her with insults of being a slut and to beat her up so that she would learn her lesson.
