Thoughts

It was time for Chloe’s break at the restaurant. She finished up with one of her favorite customers and smiled at him when he thanked her profusely, but her heart was not in it.

“Hey.” She said to Tanya who was stacking up some plates. “I’m going to take a quick break. I’ll be back shortly.”

“Uh-huh.”

Chloe left the restaurant and stepped into the warm sun. The heat felt good on her skin, so she raised her face upwards to let the sun shine down on it and if possible, wipe away all her worries. However, it was not possible, so she located a park bench and sank wearily into it. A small black bird flew close by and settled on the ground, where it pecked at some crumbs of food that someone, probably a kid had left there. Chloe watched the bird absently, wishing that she could be like it and live a happy, carefree life.
