Confession

It was four in the morning. Evelyn lay on the bed in the hotel in Asheville, watching her husband sleeping, her heart heavy. There was a huge lump in her throat, and her heart ached so badly that she was sure that no one had ever been this heartbroken in the world’s history. It was time, she knew. It was time for her to tell James about everything that he needed to know and all that she had done, and only God knew if he would be able to forgive her for it or not. They had had a good time, having been married for close to ten years now, and she could not imagine ever loving anyone else. She fervently hoped that it would not have to come to that, but she knew that far smaller secrets had been known to break up families in the past.
