Piecing two and two together

“I don’t know,” Ethan replied, averting his gaze. “Anyway, maybe you’re right. She yelled at me when I tried to tell her that I’m in love with her.”

“Wow! You’re in love with her?”

Ethan looked away and did not answer, feeling sheepish at having said too much. Madison was not the person he was supposed to be telling all this.

“You can tell me about it, Ethan. Don’t worry. I know you can never love me. You’ve proved it time and again. To be honest, rejection is not something I like. That is not to mean that you won’t regret it though.” Madison told him, winking at him.

Ethan found this hard to believe, but he shrugged. What could she do? Kidnap and handcuff him in a room so that he would bow to her desire for him to love her?

“There’s nothing to tell though. I didn’t think I would fall in love with her, but I did.”
