Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Regan pov:-

"I'm not even sure if that really happened. I must be dreaming a very bad dream, and this is going to be over soon," I whisper out loud while walking back to my apartment. I just signed my life away, and everything is going to change. I am no different from all the prostitutes who sell their bodies on the side of the road every night because what I did today seems identical to them. I sold myself to a billionaire and agreed to be his wife for two billion dollars? Am I that worthless?

NO, what the hell am I thinking? I have to do that, or he would have harmed Shawna. I can live up to that day. She is my best friend, my only sister, and the only person left on this planet that I can call my family after my real family's death.

I reached my apartment, opening the door in the middle of the night, the sky filled with lighting above my head, and there was no light on the street "hell, this lock is stuck again," I tried and tried, but that freaking lock didn't even turn then I heard the lightning strike and rain pour down on me with its violent force making my knee crumble taking me down with them.

I sat with just that shirt on in the middle of nowhere, accepting my fate. I pulled my knees up to my chest, resting my head on it.

I have to be strong, this is just for the year, and it's not like I am giving up my whole life. I can do this. I keep telling myself that in the hope of raising my confidence a bit.

Fight for yourself, never let the world cave in and break you, my father's words replaying in my head, making my heart clench with more pain "where are you, dad. You promised never to leave me. You promised me to be by my side when I'm at my weakest to hold me on my awful days and to cheer me up!

"SO WHY,"

I screamed, sobbing, my tears mixing with rain droplets, making me cold and freezing my heart from every emotion.

It has to be me. That freaky idiot man was supposed to choose me out of billions of girls around the world. God, I can never understand your game. I wish I could, but I can't. I was in my thoughts so deeply buried in them that I didn't even hear someone approaching me until that person snapped their finger in front of me.

"Hey, are you here on earth or some aliens captured you're sole Living your body out in the middle of the road in just a shirt to drown you into," said the stranger, his voice husky but at the exact moment - comforting. I don't know why. When I looked up, I met a guy who could easily be mistaken for an angel because I swear he does look like one.

He has blond hair lingering on his forehead and his cloth clung to him, emphasizing his body texture, and I can tell it's perfect by just a look of it. I was still staring that I missed out on what he just said.

"Umm, I'm sorry, what did you say," I asked as politely as I could, but the rain on my body was making me cold, and I shivered.

"I know I'm hot, but I did not know that I was that hot to catch a girl like you observing me, haha." He laughed, distracting me from all the thoughts of pain making me smile with him after so long.

"I was not staring or observing you." I replied. "But you look like you come from a nice family. I never saw you around before," I asked, my face blushing at his compliment.

"Yea, I'm not from around here. I was just out to take a walk and lost my way. I'm new here just for some days." He said, taking his seat next to me on the pavement, taking off his jacket, covering my shivering shoulders with it making me gasp at his sweetness.

'No, I can't take it. It's yours," I told him, getting up and removing the jacket, but his hand stopped me. "No, you need it more than me, and by the way, if I don't do it, I won't be considered as a gentleman," he said with a genuine smirk.

"Thank you," I whispered back.

"No problem and If you don't mind me asking why are you sitting all alone in the middle of night in this pouring whether?"

"Umm," I hesitated. Should I tell him or not. But he seems to be a nice guy, and what harm can it do if I tell him not the whole story? Maybe a little bit can't hurt much.

"Ummm, I locked myself out of my apartment and I don't have the spare keys so that's why I'm out here," I told him, to which he looked around, but I never saw any disgust or any expression change in his face. "You live here? Where is your house? Let me help you with the lock then?"

I looked at him, shocked. "You can pick locks, "I asked, confirming my thoughts, to which he did not reply, just nodded his head in acceptation.

"Hell yeah, I can do that. I'm good so let's get up. I'm feeling cold now. He said, getting up cleaning the invisible dirt from his back. He pulled me up by my elbow, making me stumble, and I collided with him. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you weigh less than 5 pounds," he commented, making me give him a fake glare, but in the end, I can't help but smile at his childish comment.

"I don't weight less than 5 pound ok!?" "Yea yea that what they all say," he replied, waving his hand in the air like crazy manic. "Let get to work I don't wish to die with hypothermia so let get this over with," I pointed him to my house, which was just three steps away from where we are, and he jumped up the stairs like a kid and pulled out a bobby pin out of his pocket turning it in shapes.

"Ta da! Thank you thank you to all the people you can all sit down," he said, making me give him a strange look. "Are you crazy," I asked.

"What, you call your lifesaver crazy? How bad can you be," he said with a frown when I stepped into my apartment, switching on the light.

"So am I invited in your house," I heard him say from behind, so I turned around and nodded my head in a no, making his jaw drop. "What? But why? I helped you right," he whispered, making me crack a smile. "Of course, you are invited idiot! Come on in let me grab towels to dry ourselves," I said while making my way to my bathroom, and I fetched two cream color towels from my sink cabinet. When I entered my living room, I found him at the same place where he was before and handed him the towel. I was drying my hair when I heard him say that he is leaving.

"What but it's still raining out there," "Yea I know that but I don't want to stay to long, my girlfriend is waiting and i don't want her to think that I might be cheating on her you know."

"Oh, that's fine."I don't want him to leave. This guy's presence is comforting, and I don't want to lose it so soon. His presence was like an elder brother, which I never had. Maybe that is why I'm craving for more! He was just about to exit when I stopped him. "Hey, what's your name," I shouted, getting his attention back. When he turned around, this amusing smile made me uncomfortable, but I was adamant about knowing his name, so I gave him a thoughtful look.

"So you want to know my name Cara mia," he asked, and I think I saw his lips twitch in a smile, but that was gone and a new stern expression formed on his face reminding of someone, but I don't know who. "Yea! It's up to you if you want to tell me or not," I replied, rubbing the back of my neck in discomfort.

"Its Xavier Cara mia and may I get this pleasure to know your name," he questioned back to me. "Umm, my name is Regan , "I told him, to which he clapped his hand, making me jump. "Uh, what a beautiful name for a beautiful lady. Nice to meet you Regan but I really need to go now. Someone is waiting". "Have a great night, Cara mia, hope to see you soon in life," with that, he left in the dark pouring night, leaving me with my brain full of thoughts exploding like a volcano. I took my seat on the floor.

What a day, Regan. You signed a contract to your death for two billion dollars; now, what will happen next. I asked myself that when suddenly my thoughts were corrupted by that Xavier guy he looked like someone but who I racked my brain to find some answer but even after fifteen minutes when I got nothing I sighed and got up. There was nothing to eat, so I had three glasses of water and went to bed in the hope of catching some sleep after a day like this.
