As he walked with Tiny, more and more beasts began to appear around them. To Ryan's surprise not a single one seemed to gaze at the pair with hostility or aggression, in fact they seemed to barely acknowledge his existence. The majority of the beasts were herbivores but they still should have been aggressive towards Ryan due to him being an Immortal. Thankfully, everything became clear when Ryan used Inspect on one of the closest bull like creatures.
[Domesticated Demon Bull Lv43]
HP: ???
That makes a lot of sense, Ryan thought. Unlike Pets who were able to be sent to fight on their own and can be independent, domesticated beasts were pretty much braindead unless their masters had a use for them. For example, a domesticated beast would have no issue walking into room full of blades meant to skin them and turn their muscles and fat into food for the masses. It was a pretty terrible existence and some Players actually forced this upon the races deemed as beasts by the system, some people are shitty.
Tiny galloped over to one of the massive bulls that were five times his size and tried to play with it. He pushed and jumped around the brain dead creature trying to incite some life into it. Sadly, the giant bulls had no reaction to the playful invitations and Tiny began to sulk as he returned back to Ryan's side. Seeing and feeling Tiny's sadness through their connection, Ryan felt that he had to get another pet for Tiny to play with on their journeys; Ryan didn't get bored easily running or walking in a straight line but due to his childish nature, Tiny definitely would so it is only right that Ryan got him a friend to play with.
After half an hour of walking and Ryan teaching Tiny about the world, they had made their way to the gate of the giant city before them. It was many times larger than Ketaren City, the walls were larger, from what Ryan could see the houses were bigger too and there were a lot more people here. Due to the masses of people, Ryan actually had to queue to get into the city. There was about a mile long queue but it seemed to be moving quickly, the demons seemed to be pretty efficient. The demons around him were all different shapes and sizes, he saw one light red demon which was pretty much just a massive eyeball and two spindly arms that floated beside it. Although there were a few groups of similar looking demons, the majority all looked different and were arriving by themselves. Many of the demons that were arriving seemed to carry weapons or were weighed down by massive bags of goods they were willing to sell.
No one seemed to pay attention to Ryan and Tiny despite them being so different, no one cared he was a human. At first, Ryan had been slightly worried he would be attacked and killed but now those worries had been quashed.
Within fifty minutes, he had made his way to the front of the gates where about twenty guards stood tall. Each of them were at least seven foot tall, muscular and covered in gold, silver and this black rock kind of thing. They were extremely intimidating and exuded an aura of power greater than that given off by the holy redhead that almost killed him just a few hours ago. Each of them had massive horns on their heads, extremely sharp teeth and giant great swords, katanas and axes slew across their backs.
"Hello sir, what are you going to be doing in the city today? Joining the war efforts I hope" One of the massive guards said to Ryan with a very respectful voice.
"What do you mean war efforts? I'm new to the Kingdom and had no idea there was a war" Ryan replied with an inquisitive look. All the other guards were busy talking to other people in the queue in the same respectful manner Ryan was being talked to.
"Well sir, as you certainly know, there is almost always a war going on between the different kingdoms for no particular reason, but recently the Queen has allowed us to use the Dimensional Scrolls to invade other Realms. The attacks pay well and your contribution points will sky rocket quickly. Unfortunately, because your soooooooo young and weak, it will probably be difficult for you to join a large attacking force."
"Ahh thanks for the information, I think I'll join these inter-dimensional attacks. It sounds fun" Ryan said with a smile as Tiny circled around him with a childish glee at the thought of crushing things.
"You seem to be a good kid, have a good day in the city. If you do decide to join the war efforts then go to Azheel and say Aghreed sent you, I am a friend of his so he should let you join one mission with him"
"Thank you so much Aghreed, have a good day" Ryan said with a smile towards the guard.
The guard allowed him to pass with a smile and he entered through the massive wall. Just behind the gates lay row after row of massive Victorian style houses and plumes of dark ashy smoke that rose from their chimneys, not a single homeless person could be seen lying on the street that Ryan was staring down. No trash littered the street despite the mass of vendors and people that constantly moved up and down the cobbled road, even the small demon children picked up the litter they dropped as they ran about laughing with each other. In comparison to Ketaren City, this place was a paradise.
As Ryan walked down the cobbled road many demons took a second glance at him, but none of them seemed to view him with hostility despite him looking completely different to them. Walking up to a female demon with a large stomach and light grey hair surrounded by small demon children that were laughing and smiling, Ryan asked politely.
"Excuse me miss, do you know where I can join the Dimensional skirmishes?"
"Awww aren't you sweet, well young man, if you walk all the way up the hill and turn right towards the big ol'church then there should be a sign up stand there." The demon said with a caring smile on her face. The wrinkles on her eyes becoming more prominent as her smile grew.
"Thank you very much miss" Ryan said with a bow.
"Just so you know young man, the sign up fee is a whole ten coppers so don't worry if you can't pay the fee and just join the ordinary military if you want to fight. There are always little skirmishes on the borders, it's one of the reasons I moved to the city."
"Thank you for the information, but I think I should be good on the money" Ryan said as he sneakily passed a silver coin to her without the surrounding crowd of children seeing.
"Well young man, it seems you aren't only cute, you're also rich. The girl who snags you is one lucky lady. Hahaha" the demon chortled as she waved him goodbye.
"Haha, thanks I guess." Ryan said awkwardly in reply.
A confused look overcame Ryan's face as he waved and began to walk away. Sure, a silver coin was worth a hundred credits, but it was quite common for the working class people of the human realm to have at least one or two coins at any time. It was strange to Ryan to be described as rich despite only giving out a single silver coin.
It must mean that despite their amazing houses and beautiful city, it seemed that the demon city was quite poor and only putting on a façade, that had to be the case.
As Ryan walked further up the hill the houses only became nicer and nicer and seemingly more expensive. Now each house was built with more aether rich materials than before and they gave off auras of solidity, it was quite reassuring to those that lived there, they believed nothing could harm their humble abodes. Each one of the houses here would cost quite a few gold coins in the human realm purely due to their aether rich materials, most would just strip the house down and sell the parts to necromancers or dark magicians.
Once Ryan had made it to the top of the hill, a large steeple came into view above the gigantic midnight black rock wall that separated the outer sector from the inner sector. The wall seemed to be made of the same rock that the guards wore as armour and it oozed with strength and durability. Despite the dark rock oozing aether and strength, not a single house he had passed was built with the material. They were either completely made of this blueish wood, or were a mixture of this white stone and blue wood.
Ryan could see a small opening in the giant black wall where there were a few tough looking demons entering, all of them were carrying their weapons in the open. Some of them wielded conventional weapons, while others had strange weapons like an eight sided sword, or a bow that shot swords instead of arrows, a few just stood with books in their hands highlighting the fact they knew magic. One thing in common about all of them though was that they all had a hardened look about them, a look you could only get from years of killing. The guards didn't even attempt to stop them as they walked through the gate, they just let them pass without fuss despite their terrifying looks.
Ryan walked towards the gap in the giant midnight black wall where lines on lines of guards waited. Each of them brought a terrifying pressure that almost felt as if it was crushing Ryan's soul. The weight of their auras pressed Ryan down to his knees in submission, his low strength unable to withstand the force.
"Ha look at this little one, he is already kneeling. Even the weakest of the new recruits at least make it past the first line. Hahahahaha" the closest demon shouted, his words met with laughs.
"HAHAHAHA"
