Barry Fiden
Age: 48
Race : Human
Address: 1500 W Los Palmdale Ave. Apt. 1
Immediate Family Junter Fiden - son
A quick search of his pockets resulted in finding two interlinked sets of keys, with one having the store's logo on the keyring, a matchbook with Ephesium on one side and an address on the other, a condom, and two suspicious looking small pill bottles.
"Officer Dean you ever hear of Ephesium?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Suspect had a matchbook with the name on one side and an address on the back."
"It is a shady nightclub that is frequented by those that are looking for a certain type of relationship with girls with about as much Neph blood in them as Sareea here. Not enough to restrict their movements, but still place them on the registry. More for their protection really. Otherwise, we would possibly mistake them for Mod users. He have anything else that might be of interest to those in our line of work, Rookie?"
"Guessing the contents of the two bottles I found in his pocket are why he ran. He had the keys to the store on him too. Think we can just leave them with your new friend Officer D.?"
"Yeah, she is listed as an employee, so no problem there. By the way you are free to go miss."
"Aww, I was looking forward to being handcuffed too."
"I can step outside with the suspect if you two need a moment Officer Dean."
"No, we should get him to lockup and have the lab check the contents of the bottles to confirm your suspicions. Being suspected of illegal Mod position is enough to bring him in for further questioning, rookie."
Once again Zeph was going to have to thank CCO Si for helping him drag a less than conscious suspect up to the intake and booking room.
**Holding Cell 6 **
"Ugg. What hit me Sareea? One of the Boom boom cans explode again?"
"Junter!"
Why are, you here, and where is here? This is not our store."
"Nice to see you too old man. We are in a holding cell obviously. This one just happens to be at the headquarters of the Los Diablos Nephilim Enforcement."
The very sterile looking holding cell was not the ideal location for a father and son to have a small family get together, but white tile covered walls, black tile flooring and hard stainless steel framed under padded cots and a combo toilet sink was going to have to make do for the time being.
"I knew hiring her was going to cause problems eventually. I should have thought with my head and not my eyes."
"The CCO that dragged you in said that while can not normally say anything about someone else being brought in he could tell me that Sareea has been cleared by NE and left to watch over the store."
"Then why am I here, and why are you not in the college library studying for that exam you used as an excuse not to finish covering for the idiots that did not show up tonight?"
"Long story short I tried to get a study aid from a street vendor and got to experience the horror of a lifetime. Not that I can blame him for just doing his job."
Grabbing his head Barry Fiden was trying to recall the events that had led him to find himself in a small cell next to his only son. In the minute or two of silence that passed, he wasn't sure of the exact amount of time that passed before either of them spoke again, his memory of the last few hours had started to come back to him.
""What is the current time.?""
....
""Time""
...
"Why is it not working?"
"Neuro Net jammers. The entire building's got them, but apparently the strongest ones are in these cells and interrogation rooms. I can only guess you will get to experience an interrogation soon. I think that the guy was told to scare me a little, but go easy because it was a first offensive, and only a possession charge?"
"Possession charge?"
"Mod While. A classmate told me about it and where to find it. Supposed to make you smarter for a while."
"I know what it is. We used to call it Brain Blast back in my LDU days. Ugh why did I run when that kid called me out by name saying that he had a few questions?"
"Kid?"
"Yeah, what else would I call him. He has to be close to your age I guess."
"You remember what he looked like?"
"No, only glanced at him when he walked by towards the coolers."
"Anything else you can recall dad? Just trying to prepare you for your trip down to interrogation."
"Nope, I have a few questions for you... hands on the counter... Then waking up here."
"Your cooked old man. Worse than the chicken we sell to drinks at three am."
"What makes you say that Junter?"
"The one that brought you here is no ordinary NEO, if it is who I think it is."
"Who?"
"Think he said his name is Demonbane or something like that. What is important is that he is Black Badge."
"They are just an urban legend, to scare Nephs, mixed bloods, and modders."
"They are very real, and you will understand why they are the thing of nightmares soon dad. Now leave me alone and let me sleep."
**Captain Halt's office**
"Rookie, I am going to ask the XO, and Senior Instructor Westnight if I can personally shove a code of conduct and the code book for crimes down your handsome little throat Black Badge or not if I have to deal with IA and I am not taking about the damn building's AI! I mean Internal Affairs. Four count them four suspects shot by YOU in less than six hours! Want to guess the total number of suspects this Division has used Stun on, if you can even call that damn setting you used Stun all week, on all shifts?"
"No idea Sir."
"Seven. Meaning your responsible for over half of the uses of that level of force. You want to explain to me why that is Cadet Demonbane?"
"I don't like when they try to run away."
"You better pray that Black Badge of yours is the magic shield of legend, or you are going to be in so much shit that the XO can't find your face buried underneath the pile of it. I will have Officer Dean in with you during the intake interrogation. So don't try anything else that will make you the priority target of Inspector Hardtack for the foreseeable future, Cadet Demonbane."
"Yes Sir."
"The results of the content of those two bottles came back. I don't know if you just have the devil's luck of a rookie, or a better nose for trouble than the guy you arrested earlier tonight, but it is definitely Mod. Turns out he had a few doses of some Mod that is usually not seen outside of certain clubs."
"Certain clubs, Captain?"
"Sex Clubs, more specifically the more depraved underground kind than cater to those trying to enhance the experience. While not completely illegal Mod Blue and Pink require a prescription form a licensed medical provider of the body modification variety. Think plastic surgeon that plays with growth hormones instead of silicone."
"Guessing that most users don't have that prescription."
"Good thing you are smart, young and handsome, cadet, otherwise, I would make you go wake up the XO and explain it to him until I take you out to lunch. Now go wait in the observation room for room N until Si escorts the suspect into the Interrogation room."
"Yes, sir."
