3. Unlikely Bond

Liam POV:

It's 4am now.

A couple of hours ago I came near the nasty wolves' borders with my second in command to watch their every move but Alec is roaring all the time making it hard to concentrate.

"Focus, Alec! We need to get to the bottom of it for our kind's sake" I whispered in my mind.

"We will, I just can't help the feeling that we're about to experience something very good and special for us today, I think we will find our mate." Alec grinned at my head. Goddess, I don't need to see it, I even got scared sometimes when Alec grins like that.

"Right, if we will, please don't grin at her like that or you'll scare her away."

I put him at the back of my mind, I need to focus and I have no time for fairy-tales stories anymore. especially after so many years waiting for my mate. I just gave up and got used to it, I don't want and don't need a mate, we were living on the Human Realm for centuries, everyone around the Realms thinks we couldn't survive the war and my mate wasn't there with us, there was also never such a thing of mates from different species but if there was and I ever find her, I'll surely going to reject her for my horde's safety, I had to be a great King and put our survival and safety above anything, I barely spent my time on romances and when I feel like it, I get satisfied sleeping around and that's enough, no names and no feelings included, specially where we are now…close to the mutts' territories, I don't even want to think about it.

I only came all the way here because we got robbed.

I live in a Mansion on the Human Realm hidden from everyone, I'm the CEO of a very successful jewelry company, I got really upset about the robbing ever since nobody has any speculation of our kind anymore, they surely had forgotten all about us after so many centuries since the war, other species couldn't just know we're alive, the idea of a traitor turned us over didn't escape from my mind at all but what's in it for this traitor? We survived, we're safe and alive. All we got to notice was a werewolf scent in my office over the Mansion, whoever is the thief, he surely didn't act by his own, we didn't even know if someone set us up, no one but our species could have ever entered the Mansion.

"I'll burn the traitor when we find." Alec roared in my mind. Now that's more like it.

Flashes from the war starts to come into my mind…

Every species knew we were the strongest of them all and they all decided to attack us at the same time without even planning it among each other.

400years ago, it was dawn and everyone was on their own accommodation, probably sleeping, but me, I couldn't help the feeling something was wrong, my instinct was higher being a King and the dawn was way too quiet, quieter than ever.

Our barriers were strong and no species besides our kind could pass through but still all of a sudden, we heard kids crying, women screaming and the yellow and white flames through the windows all over our Realm. There was nothing we could do.

"What's going on?" I asked my second in command as he hurriedly entered my office at the same time the chaos started, the dragons followed obediently every order I demanded and they didn't spend time when something serious was happening. Yes, we're dragons. What left of it.

"Sir, we're under attack" he replied.

"What? How could they get in inside our Realm? Who's attacking us?"

"We're still investigating, Sir and…" he was hesitant "All the Realm's army are attacking us it seems, I don't think we stand an chance, we're unprepared, our army isn't gathered and the Vampires are killing all the dragons at this very moment" he continued saying in a very shaking voice.

If we had fought, we'd lose more of our kind because we couldn't protect everyone.

"We don't have a choice than guarantee our kind's safety, I think that is why the Goddess sent us this rune" I said while opening a golden chest.

"Everybody, this is an emergency and I have a restricted order to all of you, lay your bodies on the dead ones now" I mind-linked everyone as I triggered the emergency rune the Goddess herself sent from Olympus to our Fortress some days ago to flash everyone to the Human Realm, a Realm where anyone could never imagine we could go to live.

Nobody knew about the Goddess' defense Rune but us, it would flash everyone from the same species that it'd first be used, there was no way they would know about us anymore among all the chaos and dead bodies.

We survived and could make it through, it was my duty as the King of Dragons to make sure everyone were safe and instruct my second in command Prospero and his mate Kathlyn, as Devon, my third in command and responsible for our security and army and his brother, Aslam to help the injured and learn everything we could about the Humans from this day on.

But the unanswered question still lingered in my mind until now-a-days.

"Why?"

Now there I was with Prospero and 3 soldiers dragons hiding behind each tree, not much, we must be and act sneaky and stay quiet just mind-linking each other, but right now there was not much to be said, I gave a quick look at my watch and it was already 5:30am, I sneakily checked the gates myself since I'm the faster one here and I was getting back to the safe spot with the soldiers, suddenly the most delicious wild rose and lily scent floated so tenderly into my nostrils, mouthwatering me and I just lost it.

Like nothing else mattered, I disappeared following where this scent was coming from, I felt intoxicated.

I was trying to walk fast but it all seems like a damn slow motion, my heart was racing but the scent was calming me down, I didn't know how long I've been walking but I stopped by the crystalline river as the scent got stronger then I saw her, she seemed to be looking for something until her gaze found mine and there was the most beautiful woman I ever laid my eyes on, I felt my eyes burning with lust, she was small, shouldn't measure more than 5'2.

Oh little girl, the things I already want to do with you.

My eyes couldn't leave her tied half-up long ginger smooth and silk hair falling over her body, the tip was down her waist and it was conveying her sweet and innocent self as her clear beige skin made me want to touch it with my fingers to proof myself she was real and I stared deeply at her now darker beautiful brown hazel eyes, she was also staring at me with eyes wide open when a growl come from my chest and I claimed with a growl "Mine", I heard she also recognized me.

Her voice was Heaven and it came out no louder than a whisper, we were Mates.

Alice POV:

I ran for about 20 minutes until I found a clear spot at the forest.

"Ok, I think we're far enough Hope, ready?" I asked in my mind as I got undressed.

"Born ready!"

I put my clothes inside my bag and shifted to Hope. She barely finished the shifting, bit our bag up and started to run like crazy, she was very fast, the fastest wolf I've ever seen and she was beautiful, not big as the Alpha but subtly bigger than any other ranked wolf, she has a grey and white fur, bright yellow eyes, she's elegant but also strong, extremely agile and skillful. I enjoyed the breeze as she was hunting every kind of little animals she sees, she was playing with the leaves, butterflies and even swirling in the air.

It was nice but we couldn't find the deer she was expecting to hunt, we decided to go further and it was a very nice day to get a break from being in my Human form.

We've gone even further than we could from the wolf's city and I noticed we were getting close to the border.

"Hope, we are forbidden to pass through".

"C'mon, let me be Ali, you know we can pass through it in our secret passage, I'm going, you can't force me not to now, I have this feeling I have to do this today."

"Goddess, fine but let's not be long or we'll end up being severely punished if we get caught." I whispered to Hope afraid of anyone hear me even inside my thoughts.

She sniffed around and found the passage inside a bush, Hope crawled in a very tight hole outside the border, she kept crawling for a couple of minutes until she ran as fast as she could.

"Let's shift, Hope! I have to see in our bag if you squeezed my breakfast lunch" She just chuckled on my note, let my bag go from her teeth and sniffed it trying to open the bag with her snout.

"C'mon, already" I laughed at her trying to open it with her claws now.

When we shifted back, I put my clothes on and I was about to eat something when the manliest scent ever surrounded me, mahogany and oak-moss, I've never smelled something so good and addictive in my life, Hope was pacing around in my head but I didn't even care.

"What is this? Where this manly scent is coming from?" I asked her.

"I think it's our mate, let's go hunt him now, forget the deer, bunnies and squirrels, Ali." My wolf said before almost took control again as I smiled rolling my eyes at her.

I gasped, is it really our mate? Is the Goddess really giving me this blessing at such a young age? From this scent, he must be the most beautiful man all over the Realms.

Without losing any more time I started to look for him, I am a very good tracker as well, I kept following his scent as it got stronger, almost intoxicating me at each step forward and it didn't take long for me to find him near a crystalline river.

We stared at each other, my pupils dilated and my brown hazel eyes got darker, I felt goosebumps on every inch of my being when we both claimed "Mine" at the same time.

He was the most gorgeous man, I didn't even need to get to see any other man to make sure of it, he's very tall, about 6'7, if not taller, his eyes colors are different from each one, the right-sided eye is crystal blue and the left-sided eye is as green as this forest, his messy dark medium-length hair were almost falling on his beard, his natural tan skin and his strong manly jaws made my lips almost quiver, he was wearing a unbuttoned bright blue dress shirt showing a bit of his bare and strong chest and sleeves folded up to his elbows then I noticed he had tattoos all over his arms and chest, so sexy and I could see his strong arms fighting for space on the high arm and his 6 pack abs that does nothing to hide and a casual black trouser, how did he get here in the middle of the forest dressing like that? Was he in a hurry for something? Not complaining, though.

Suddenly I noticed he looked disappointed. What? Am I not what he expected?

Hope whimpered in pain and it also broke my heart as I took a lungful of air to smell his scent again, maybe one last time and just then I noticed; he was not a werewolf, he didn't smell like one. Did he expect me to be some other thing? I turned to my side because he was just standing there and I was thinking; if he wanted me, he would have said something already or kissed me.

I've read a lot about mates' bond and its pull, I crossed my arms and put my hands on top of them as if I was trying to find any source of warmth among all this coldness.

Realization hit me when I reminded myself that we were near the Werewolves Realm border, I didn't care what he was, he could be Human for all I care, I couldn't smell him and that was not a problem for me, maybe one last chance to make sure…

I turned to glance at him again and smiled.
